Head of Information Services
Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking leader to head our Information Services function within the Performance and Information directorate within our Digital Transformation and Information function. Reporting to the Director of Performance and Information, this senior role is pivotal in shaping how high-quality data, insight and intelligence support decision-making across the Trust.
As Head of Information Services, you will lead teams responsible for Data Quality, Clinical Coding, Contracting & CDS, and a highly skilled cohort of analysts. You will oversee the delivery of accurate statutory reporting, drive improvements in data quality, and champion the development of innovative BI solutions that strengthen clinical governance, operational performance, and strategic planning. The staff in this team largely work remotely and this is a therefore hybrid based role.
This is a role for someone with deep specialist knowledge of NHS information management, exceptional communication skills, an attention to detail and a proven ability to lead teams. As part of the management team you will play a key part in modernising our digital infrastructure, expanding our BI capabilities, and ensuring the Trust continues to meet national standards while delivering excellent outcomes for patients and staff. Main duties of the job
Ability to communicatehighly complexstatistical data to a variety of audiences, both technical and non-technical.
Formulating long term strategic plans
In depth specialist knowledge of information management and performance in the NHS.
Ability to interpret, draw conclusions from and implications of results statistical, performance and public health analyses to a wide range of internal and external staff.
Strong understanding of clinical coding classifications, coding standards and grouping rules within NHS contracting & commissioning.

Responsible for Data Quality, Clinical Coding and Contracting & CDS teams.
Deputise for the Director Performance and Information whererequired.
Tobe accountable for thedelivery ofahigh qualityinformation and performance monitoring service on behalf of the Trust the postholder must work closely with clinicians and all levels of management within the Trust, the local host Clinical Commissioning Group and other commissioners. The post holder willestablishworking relationships with other external NHS organisations, e.g. the NHSEngland,DoH, Other NHS Providers etc.
The post holder will be corporately responsible for monitoring performance against national and local targets and develop processes and procedures for such monitoring across the Trust.
The postholder will manage a team of highly skilled analysts, Clinical Coders and data quality officers and willbe responsible fortheday to daymanagement, including performance monitoring, appraisals, etc.
Developing policies and procedures in relation to Information and Data Quality
Develops and monitors budgets for Information Services
Work with theNUHorganisation to convert strategicobjectivesinto intelligence and analysis.
The post holderwill bejointly responsiblewith the Head of Business Intelligence and reportingfor the reporting of all NHS andDHSEstatutory returns, will be corporately responsible and accountable foraccuracy and quality of the information reported on behalf of the Trust and will ensure all returns aresubmittedon time.
The post holder will be jointlyresponsible for collection and reporting of information that not only supports management needs, but supports clinical governance improvement, acute trust performance management and local decision making within the health economy.Information and analysis teamsneed to be responsive to organisational changes and requirements.
Promote improvements in data quality and data collection and recording.
Horizon scan for the latest developments in data and information management, for example look fornew technologies, such as SNOMED CT, System changes, machinelearningand artificial intelligence.
Ensure the Information teams are equipped to do their job, including hardware,softwareand skills, such asnew technologies.
Design and implement a quality and performance surveillance unit to ensure the Trust fully understands its position at a ward level, but also against national standards and peers.Take actionand make recommendations where necessary to ensure performance information is correctly recorded and reported.
Continue to prioritisethe roll out of theNervecentreand Insourceplatforms, ensuring thetimescalesmeetcurrent project deadlines, such as upgrades and new modules of thenewEPR.
Liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders, Board members, clinicians, Information, Clinical Coding, Data Quality, Directorate Management teams, Finance and HR.
Liaise with senior system users and system managers to map business processes so that data items are directly available or derived,wherever possibletosupport the needs of the service.
Planning developments and workload over timescales of projects that may lastyearsintegrating many complex requirements of internal and external end users.
Evaluation ofnew products and technologies and consider their usage as solutions within theinformationdevelopment work program, for example delivery of intelligence on handheld or tablet devices.
To continually strive to improve the effectiveness, performance, ease of access and understanding of existing interfaced NUHsystems.
Formimportant linksbetween technical staff and end users, by communicating effectively between both groups of people and converting business requirements into system specifications and design, by a process of business analysis.
To support the data warehousing by ensuring that schema in the warehouse reflects the reporting needs of the service.
Contribute to the design and development of all future system modules to be included in the Business Intelligence solution and manipulation of relevant data sources.
Support the development of performance measures, including contract targets and indicators e.g. QIPP,CQUINs (Clinical Quality Indicators), and Quality etc.
Continually look to enhance the format of information presented andseekto provide innovative representations for a range of information.
Understand the principles of the Data Protection Act and Caldicott principles to ensure
the practices of the information services department and information flows protect the security of patient information at alltime.
Ensure that national changes to information reporting are reflected onEPRand that the quality of data is not at risk.Ensure hospital staff that collect data are aware of changes and that the necessary policies and procedures are updated.
Deputise for theDeputyDirector of Information &Performanceasappropriateand provide short-term cover for colleagues during periods of leave.
