MI Analyst (Power BI / Business Intelligence)
Bolton | Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite | Permanent
Salary - Circa £40k
Power BI | SQL | SSRS | Microsoft Fabric
We’re looking for an MI Analyst to join a Business Intelligence team in Bolton, working on a hybrid basis with 2 days per week onsite.
You’ll work across the development of new reporting solutions as well as the day-to-day delivery and improvement of MI across the business, using Power BI, SQL and SSRS to create meaningful reporting, improve existing solutions and help the business get more from its data.
This is a varied role combining reporting, analysis and technical development with plenty of stakeholder interaction. You’ll work with teams across the business to understand what they need, translate those requirements into effective reporting and identify trends and patterns that support better decision-making.
The Role;
You’ll produce regular and ad-hoc reporting for both internal and external stakeholders, while also helping to develop and improve the wider MI environment.
You'll be responsible for:
- Creating and maintaining reports and dashboards in Power BI
- Developing and maintaining reporting in SSRS
- Working with SQL Server and T-SQL to query and prepare data
- Supporting the development and maintenance of data marts and warehouses
- Automating and scheduling standard reporting
- Gathering and documenting requirements directly from stakeholders
- Turning business requirements into clear and useful MI solutions
- Analysing data to identify trends and patterns that support business decisions
- Troubleshooting reporting and production issues
- Reviewing existing reporting to reduce duplication and improve quality
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients
- Supporting more junior members of the team where required
- Contributing ideas around new tools, technologies and ways of improving how the team works
Your experience:
You’ll ideally already be working in an MI, BI or reporting-focused role and be comfortable creating business reporting in Power BI.
- Experience using Power BI to create reports and dashboards
- Working knowledge of SQL Server and T-SQL, including writing queries
- Experience developing or maintaining SSRS reports
- Strong Excel skills
- A good understanding of relational databases
- Experience working with multiple data platforms and sources
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience gathering requirements and working directly with stakeholders
- The ability to communicate data and information clearly to different audiences
- The ability to manage BAU reporting alongside project and development work
More advanced Power BI development experience would be particularly useful, as would exposure to Microsoft Fabric.
Experience with Azure Data Factory, Power Automate, data modelling, stored procedures or SQL performance tuning would also be beneficial, but isn't essential.
Knowledge of data governance and control environments such as GDPR, the Data Protection Act, ISO 27001 or SOX would be useful, although we wouldn't expect you to be an expert in all of these
The opportunity
You’ll join a collaborative Business Intelligence team where you'll have the opportunity to work across both established reporting and new development. There’s plenty of scope to improve and automate existing reporting, contribute to new MI solutions and help shape how data is used across the wider business.
The role is based in Bolton with 2 days per week onsite, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week.
We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds and experiences. If you meet most, but not every, requirement above, we'd still encourage you to apply.
If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know.
