£85,000 – £95,000 DOE

Hybrid – 1 day per week in Milton Keynes

Key skills: Technical Programme Management | Software / SDLC | Complex Multi-Workstream Programmes | Engineering & Architecture | Agile Delivery | Customer-Facing Delivery

I’m recruiting for two Senior Technical Programme Managers for a growing technology-led organisation delivering large-scale, business-critical software programmes. These roles sit at the intersection of technology and programme delivery.

You’ll lead complex, multi-workstream programmes while working closely with Software Engineering, Product and Architecture teams, understanding technical decisions, identifying risks and knowing when to challenge or bring the right people into the conversation.

The Role;

  • Leading complex, cross-functional technology programmes from planning through to delivery
  • Coordinating multiple projects, technical teams, workstreams and dependencies
  • Working closely with Engineering, Product and Architecture teams
  • Understanding and challenging technical approaches, risks and trade-offs where appropriate
  • Managing programme roadmaps, governance, budgets, risks and reporting
  • Working directly with customers and external delivery partners
  • Bringing clarity and structure to programmes where there is complexity, change and ambiguity
  • Supporting Project Managers and delivery teams

The programmes are predominantly software / SDLC focused, large in scale and involve multiple teams, products, customers and external partners.

Your experience will include:

  • Experience leading large-scale, complex technical programmes
  • A strong background delivering within software, SaaS or engineering-led environments
  • A good understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Technical knowledge across areas such as architecture, cloud, APIs, integrations and platforms
  • Experience delivering across multiple technical teams, products or workstreams
  • Programme governance, risk and budget management experience
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments
  • Experience working directly with customers and senior stakeholders
  • Comfortable working through complexity, change and ambiguity and taking ownership of the way forward

You don't need to be hands-on technically today, however a previous background in software development, engineering or technical leadership is required.

Desirable experience

Any of the following would be highly advantegeous:

  • Rail, transport or infrastructure
  • Aviation or defence
  • Government / public sector technology
  • Critical national infrastructure or safety-critical environments
  • Data, software or technology-enabled services
  • Working alongside major consultancies, systems integrators or external delivery partners
  • Experience across multiple products or platforms
  • Experience through acquisitions, integration or organisational transformation
  • Experience of scaled Agile environments

These aren't essential, technical depth and experience successfully delivering complex software programmes are the priority.

The Opportunity

You'll be joining at a time of significant technology investment and change, with a substantial portfolio of programmes already underway and further work in the pipeline. The organisation is also developing its global PMO, creating opportunities to take on broader responsibility as the function continues to grow.

Interview process

We want the process to be useful for both sides and give you a genuine feel for the work you'd be joining.

Following an initial conversation with me, there will be two stages with the team.

One will include an interactive, real-world programme scenario. Rather than preparing a presentation or completing a lengthy task, you'll work through a genuine type of challenge with the team, asking questions and discussing how you'd approach it.

The final stage will give you the opportunity to meet people you'd work closely with across the business and understand more about the team, programmes and environment.

We want to make the recruitment process as inclusive and accessible as possible. You don't need to meet every desirable requirement to apply. If you have the core technical programme experience we're looking for and believe your experience could transfer well, we'd be happy to hear from you.

If you need any reasonable adjustments or additional support at any stage of the recruitment process, please let me know.
