Software Engineer
Software Engineer
Manchester | Hybrid (2 days in office)
We are hiring a Software Engineer for a specialist technology company that builds production systems for international clients. A large part of the work sits where software meets physical equipment.
This is a full-lifecycle role: gather requirements, design, build, test and deliver. You will write software that talks to hardware, not only to other services.
The role
- Capture requirements with engineers, clients and internal teams
- Design and build software for desktop, services and device-facing applications
- Integrate systems with hardware, sensors, instruments or edge devices
- Test thoroughly and support delivery into live environments
- Work in Python as standard; C# / .NET is the preferred application stack
- Collaborate with people working on AI, embedded and cloud components
What you will need
- Commercial software experience across design, build and test
- Python
- Experience integrating software with hardware, devices or embedded systems
- A computer engineering background, or similar (electronics, mechatronics, embedded systems)
- Confidence gathering requirements and turning them into working software
- Fluent English for international work
Preferred
- C# and .NET (Windows services, desktop or device-side applications)
- Familiarity with industrial or lab protocols (for example serial, MQTT, Modbus, CAN)
- Comfortable on Windows or Linux
Useful
- IoT, edge devices, sensors or firmware collaboration
- CI/CD, Git, basic cloud
- Experience in cross-functional or client-facing delivery
What they offer
- Work that reaches real equipment, not only dashboards
- International clients
- Hybrid working — two days a week in the Manchester office
- Practical engineering culture
C# / .NET is preferred, not mandatory, if you have strong Python and genuine hardware-integration experience.
