Job Title: Software Deployment & Support Engineer

Location: Uxbridge Stockley Park / Some working from home

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Software Implementation Team within a major UK retailer. You’ll be part of a busy, technically skilled team responsible for remote software deployment, scripting, and support across the retailer’s Store Infrastructure.

This role will predominantly require you to be on site in Stockley Park. Once training etc is completed, at times working from home will be possible.

Working Pattern:

This is a full-time role, typically 40 hours per week. Shift patterns may vary depending on business needs and can include:

  • Day shifts: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts
  • Night shifts: Typically, 4 nights, 10-hour shifts

Flexibility is essential as deployments may occasionally require shift adjustments to support business-critical activities.

Who We’re Looking For

We're seeking a technically strong support professional with at least 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced support environment. You must be comfortable working with command-line interfaces, have hands-on deployment scripting knowledge, and be familiar with enterprise-level Windows Server environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Package, schedule, and deploy software, patches, and firmware across store devices using SCCM / MECM
  • Monitor deployments and report status to stakeholders
  • Provide remote technical support for Windows servers, tills, self-checkouts, and peripherals
  • Log and manage incidents raised by stores in the internal service management system
  • Collaborate with 3rd-party suppliers and field engineers using Microsoft Teams
  • Ensure deployment activities meet quality, change control, and compliance standards
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance delivery efficiency
  • Support Retail Implementation projects involving system upgrades, hardware rollouts, and infrastructure changes

Key Technologies & Tools

You don’t need experience in every one of these, but familiarity with many will help you succeed:

Deployment & Scripting:

  • SCCM / MECM (Current Branch) – Deployment, scheduling, reporting
  • Command-line tools (DOS)
  • Basic T-SQL scripting
  • PowerShell scripting (desirable)

Operating Systems:

  • Windows Server:
  • Windows 10/11 (for store devices)

Infrastructure & Services:

  • Active Directory, DHCP, Server Print Queues
  • Bit9 / Carbon Black / App Control
  • SCOM (monitoring)
  • IIS, DFS, KMS (working knowledge desirable)

Other Tools:

  • Microsoft Excel (reporting and analysis)
  • Incident Management Databases / ITSM tools
  • Microsoft Teams (collaboration)

About the Team

The Retail Implementation Team is responsible for rolling out IT, voice, and data solutions across the UK, Ireland, Channel Islands, France, and Franchise stores. They handle the remote deployment and support of software and infrastructure.

Working hours are typically 40 hours per week, with shifts structured to meet project and deployment demands. This includes:

  • Day shifts: 5 x 8-hour shifts per week
  • Night shifts: 4 x 10-hour shifts (typically used for major deployments)

Night work and flexibility are essential parts of the role when supporting time-sensitive rollouts.

Recent Projects Include:

  • Upgrading store LAN and wireless infrastructure
  • Enhancing print services across all stores
  • Deploying systems for a new national distribution centre
  • Supporting franchise partners with stock management systems
  • Peak trading hardware deployments
  • Expanding self-checkout estate and rolling out new till scanning solutions

Rate advertised is based on LTD company structure. PAYE rates are available if required.

Initial period of 3-6 months likely followed by a long term position - some of the team have been 15/20 years +
