Senior Frontend Engineer – Technical Leadership + Modern JS

Location: Belfast (Hybrid)

Type: Permanent | Full-time

Company: OCHO | Building Teams

Contact: Ryan Quinn on LinkedIn

The Opportunity

OCHO are partnering with a high-growth technology company to hire a Senior Frontend Engineer who will play a pivotal role in shaping their engineering direction. This is a rare opportunity to help establish a technical leadership layer while remaining genuinely hands-on.

You'll have autonomy across design, implementation, and delivery — guiding the frontend engineering group responsible for building modern, data-rich applications used by customers at scale.

If you want leadership responsibility without giving up the craft, this is that role.

Why This Team?

Small teams, real impact

You'll work in focused, empowered squads with minimal bureaucracy. Clear outcomes, strong support, and no unnecessary process in your way.

Develop, grow, thrive

Engineers are encouraged to experiment, challenge assumptions, learn continuously, and master their craft. This is a culture built around curiosity and improvement.

Real problems, real users

You'll be building products that solve genuine operational challenges for thousands of users — not prototypes, but production systems that matter.

What You'll Work On

You'll help modernise and evolve a suite of customer-facing applications into a clean, intuitive experience. Expect to work with:

• TypeScript and React to build rich, responsive UIs

• Secure hosted payment pages and reusable form components

• Data-heavy portals built in close partnership with UX

• A shared component library supporting a modern design system

• Contemporary engineering practices including BDD, CI/CD, and automation

The environment is varied — you'll work across different team sizes, initiatives, and architectural challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate customer needs into high-quality, innovative product experiences

• Raise engineering standards through improved tooling, automation, and process simplification

• Collaborate closely with peers to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely delivery

• Contribute to project estimation, planning, and clear communication of progress

• Support deployment cycles across test and production environments

• Champion clean code, testable behaviours, and modern delivery practices

• Act as a technical leader, mentor, and role model across the frontend group

What You Will Bring

• 10 plus years' software engineering experience

• Deep expertise in modern frontend product development

• Strong knowledge of JavaScript (ES6 plus), TypeScript, HTML, CSS

• Experience with React, Vue, Angular, or similar frameworks

• Ability to build pixel-perfect, responsive interfaces from prototypes

• Experience with REST APIs and OAuth2 / OIDC

• Skills in data-rich visualisation tooling (D3 or similar)

• Comfort operating in different team setups — from solo delivery to multi-team programmes

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate business requirements into solutions

• Leadership qualities: mentoring, coaching, technical decision-making

• A proactive, detail-driven engineering mindset

Why Join?

• Help shape the engineering culture and standards from the ground up

• Work on meaningful products used by real customers every day

• Hybrid flexibility with time on-site for collaboration

• Supportive environment focused on ownership, learning, and high-quality engineering

• The chance to influence design systems, frontend strategy, and architectural evolution
