Senior Software Engineer TLNT1 NI

Senior Software Engineer (AI Engineering / Full Stack) At a Glance Senior individual contributor role at a fast-growing technology company transforming a traditional industry AI engineering is central to this role, building agentic systems, not just using them Full-stack scope across Python, TypeScript and modern cloud infrastructure Fully remote - NI Salary up to £110,000 Why This Organisation Our client is a technology company using software to transform the way businesses in a traditional, capital-intensive industry operate. They build the tools that help their customers run smarter, more efficient operations - and they take engineering seriously at every level. This is a flat, distributed organisation where engineers work directly alongside product and the people who use the software, without layers of handoffs or hierarchy. The culture is high trust, high ownership and genuinely engineering led. If you want your work to be visible, your decisions to matter and your career to move at the pace you set, this is the kind of environment that delivers that. The Role and What It Can Do For Your Career This is a Senior Software Engineer position with an explicit AI engineering mandate - not just AI assisted coding, but building the agentic systems the team depends on. You will own complex engineering problems end to end, go find problems yourself rather than waiting for a specification, and deliver work across the full stack from user interfaces through to backend services, data flows and platform capabilities. What makes this role genuinely different is the expectation around AI. You will design and build agentic workflows, evaluate and improve them, set guardrails for quality and security, and share effective practices across the team. The field is new enough that demonstrated aptitude and evidence of building matters more than years of experience - which means strong engineers who are genuinely curious about AI engineering have a real opportunity to differentiate themselves here. The career value is in the scope and the moment. AI engineering is the most sought after area of software development right now and this role puts you at the leading edge of applying it in a production environment, with real customers and real consequences. Working in a flat organisation with direct access to product and engineering leadership means your growth is limited only by your ambition. Key Responsibilities Own complex engineering problems end to end - from clarifying priorities and identifying dependencies through to implementation and measuring effectiveness in production Design and deliver maintainable, secure and scalable services, APIs, user interfaces and data flows using sound system design principles Build, evaluate and improve the agentic systems the team depends on - agents that review merge requests, reproduce and resolve bugs and capture product context Use AI assisted and agentic development tools across discovery, design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation to improve speed and quality Work confidently across the full stack and in services you do not own - making correct, reviewed changes in unfamiliar repositories Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and increase engineering efficiency, balancing short term needs with long term sustainability Lead and contribute to technical design discussions, making data informed decisions about architecture, integration patterns, performance and resilience Investigate production issues using observability tools to identify root causes and prevent recurrence Build observability, monitoring, alerting and automated testing into services from the start Mentor and support other engineers through pairing, design reviews and knowledge sharing What You'll Need Essential: 5 or more years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production grade applications Strong software engineering fundamentals across the full stack - able to deliver end to end including user interfaces Practical experience building with AI coding assistants and agentic development tools, with the judgement to verify outputs and apply appropriate engineering controls Depth or clear aptitude in AI engineering - designing agent context, evaluating output at volume, orchestrating agents, setting guardrails and managing cost efficiency Strong system design skills including APIs, distributed systems, data models, performance, reliability and security Experience with cloud based systems and modern delivery practices including CI and CD, code review, automated testing and production observability Comfortable working independently in a fast moving, low hierarchy environment without detailed instruction Strong communication skills - able to explain trade-offs and risk clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Nice to Have: Experience with Python and TypeScript specifically Background in event driven systems, streaming technologies or high volume data processing Experience with containers and cloud native infrastructure Why You Should Apply Now Senior engineering roles with a genuine AI engineering mandate - not just AI assisted tooling but building the agentic systems that make teams faster - are rare. This is a company at an interesting stage, with a clear product mission, a high trust engineering culture and the kind of flat structure that lets strong engineers move quickly and build meaningful careers. The salary reflects the level of the work and the expectation that comes with it. Salary up to £110,000. Fully remote from NI.
