Service Technician

A fantastic opportunity for an Electrotechnical Technician based in or around Heathrow is available to join a specialist engineering business delivering and maintaining advanced electromechanical and automated systems within major airport environments.

This Electrotechnical Technician job offers the opportunity to work in a technically demanding airport environment, supporting the installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault-finding of specialist equipment. The role covers electrical, mechanical and automation systems, ensuring high levels of equipment reliability, availability and performance within a highly regulated environment.

Electrotechnical Technician Job Responsibilities

  • Install, commission and validate specialist electromechanical and automated equipment.
  • Carry out equipment adjustments, configuration and functional testing.
  • Perform planned preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical and automation faults.
  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems and power distribution equipment, including 400Hz systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot industrial HVAC and PCA systems.
  • Work on PLC and industrial automation control systems, including configuration and fault-finding.
  • Test and troubleshoot sensors, actuators and control interfaces.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and P&ID diagrams.
  • Provide technical support to airport teams, operators and customers.
  • Respond to technical issues and emergency breakdowns when required.
  • Complete service reports, maintenance records and incident documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with airport safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

Electrotechnical Technician Job Requirements

  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrotechnical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Automation or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience as an Electrotechnical Technician, Electrical Engineer, Field Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Electromechanical Engineer or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including LV/HV and power distribution.
  • Strong hands-on electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with industrial automation and PLC systems, ideally Siemens, Schneider or similar.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and P&ID diagrams.
  • Experience troubleshooting electromechanical equipment and automated systems.
  • Experience with industrial HVAC or PCA systems would be advantageous.
  • Strong multidisciplinary troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical and control systems.
  • Previous experience in commissioning, servicing or maintaining industrial or technical equipment.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Flexibility to work within secured airport environments and undertake potential shift work.
  • Experience within an airport, aviation or Ground Support Equipment (GSE) environment would be advantageous.
