Senior Energy Modeller | ClimateTech Scale Up

Senior Energy Modeller

Remote-first (UK) | Occasional London travel | High-growth Tech Startup

Are you an experienced Energy Modeller ready to shape the future of decarbonised infrastructure?

An award-winning, fast-scaling clean-tech company is hiring a Senior Energy Modeller to play a key role in building next-generation optimisation and forecasting tools that support multi-year, high-resolution energy planning. Their platform is already trusted by major cities, utilities, and infrastructure stakeholders to inform critical investment decisions across power, heat, buildings, and transport.

This is a high-impact role in a growing team where ownership, autonomy, and progression are genuine.

The Role:

You’ll sit at the intersection of energy systems, optimisation theory, and product development. This role is deeply quantitative — strong foundations in linear algebra and mathematical optimisation are essential.

Working closely with clients, data scientists, and software engineers, you’ll design and implement advanced modelling solutions that enable smarter, faster infrastructure decisions.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Translating complex stakeholder requirements into structured mathematical modelling frameworks
  • Designing and refining optimisation algorithms (LP, MILP, convex optimisation, dynamic programming)
  • Applying linear algebra techniques to large-scale, high-resolution energy system models
  • Developing multi-year forecasting models across power, buildings, heat, and transport
  • Integrating modelling outputs into cloud-based software platforms
  • Producing clear technical and non-technical documentation
  • Researching trends in decarbonisation, flexibility markets, and long-term system planning
  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to modelling best practice

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong experience in energy systems modelling (power markets, low-carbon tech, building simulation, network optimisation, or integrated energy systems)
  • Deep understanding of linear algebra and optimisation methods
  • Hands-on experience implementing optimisation models in Python (e.g. Pyomo, CVXPY, Gurobi, or similar)
  • Strong Python programming skills
  • Good grasp of software engineering principles (version control, modular design, testing)
  • Degree in Engineering, Maths, Physics, Computer Science, or similar quantitative discipline
  • Analytical mindset with a genuine interest in the energy transition

Why Join?

  • Work on technology actively shaping net-zero infrastructure investment
  • Influence real-world decisions at city and utility scale
  • Join a high-growth environment with genuine progression potential
  • Remote-first flexibility with collaboration hubs in London & Cambridge
  • Clear pathway toward technical leadership or product/commercial influence

If you’re looking to move beyond isolated modelling work into a role with visibility, influence, and long-term growth — this is an opportunity to apply deep mathematical thinking to one of the most important challenges of the next decade.
