Location: Liverpool Street, London (2 days onsite / 3 days WFH)
Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 + benefits
We’re looking for a skilled Java Developer to join a fast-growing business that is investing heavily in its digital platforms and cloud infrastructure. You’ll work on modern customer-facing and back-office systems that support millions of transactions, helping deliver scalable, high-performing solutions across ecommerce, payments, fulfilment, and retail operations.
This is a hybrid role based near Liverpool Street, with 2 days per week in the office and 3 days working from home.
The Role
As a Java Developer, you’ll be part of a collaborative engineering team building cloud-native applications and APIs using modern Java technologies. You’ll contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through to deployment and support.
You’ll work closely with product managers, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and other developers to deliver robust, scalable systems in an agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications and microservices
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs using Spring Boot
- Develop scalable cloud-native solutions within AWS
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical solutions
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues where required
- Contribute to system architecture and technical decision-making
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java
- Solid experience with Spring Boot and microservices architecture
- Experience working with AWS services
- Good understanding of REST APIs and distributed systems
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Desirable
- Experience within retail, ecommerce, or high-transaction environments
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
- Exposure to event-driven architecture or messaging tools such as Kafka
- Experience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
