Data Engineer | London Market Insurance | Outside IR35

Contract: 12 months initially

Rate: £700-£750 per day

IR35: Outside IR35

Location: London - hybrid, approximately 3 days per week onsite

Oliver James is working with a leading London Market insurer looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join a high-profile transformation project.

The business is experiencing significant growth across its Consortium and Facility operations and is looking to automate a number of currently manual data and back-office processes. The successful contractor will have significant ownership over designing and building scalable automated solutions.

The role will involve:

• Building and automating data processes across Consortium and Facility business
• Automating bordereaux production, fee calculations and other insurance data processes
• Working with data held within SQL Server
• Understanding existing business process flows and translating these into scalable technical solutions
• Building appropriate controls and auditability into automated processes
• Working closely with insurance and business stakeholders
• Helping create a best-in-class, scalable process as the business continues to grow

Key experience:

• Strong hands-on Data Engineering background
• Excellent SQL / SQL Server / T-SQL skills
• Previous Lloyd's / London Market insurance experience
• Proven experience taking manual business/data processes and successfully automating them
• Strong understanding of data flows and ETL
• Experience with Consortium, Facility, bordereaux, Delegated Authority or Coverholder data would be highly desirable
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Python and/or PowerShell would be beneficial

This isn't a role where the technical solution has already been completely prescribed. The successful Data Engineer will have considerable flexibility around how the solution is built, so it's particularly suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of a problem and delivering the right technical solution.
