Business Analyst - Core Banking System Upgrade - London (hybrid) - £550/d (outside IR35)

Overview

Oliver James has partnered with a specialist UK bank to support the upgrade of its Finastra Equation core banking platform. This is a key role within a wider change programme, focused on ensuring the successful delivery of a complex core system upgrade in a regulated environment.

You will join a collaborative technology and change function, working closely with senior business and IT stakeholders. This role would suit an experienced IT Business Analyst with strong Equation expertise who is comfortable operating across the full project lifecycle in a fast-paced banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and manage key stakeholders across business and IT, ensuring clear communication and expectation management
  • Lead requirements elicitation activities through workshops, interviews and analysis sessions
  • Define and agree scope, ensuring thorough impact assessments across people, process, organisation and technology
  • Produce high-quality BA artefacts including functional and non-functional requirements, user stories, process models and data models
  • Align business requirements to technical solutions, ensuring system impacts are fully understood
  • Support all stages of delivery including scoping, design, testing and implementation
  • Ensure requirements are validated, approved and managed in line with project governance standards

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Finastra Equation
  • Proven experience supporting Equation upgrades
  • Strong background delivering Business Analysis within fast-paced change or transformation environments
  • Experience producing user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps and other structured BA documentation
  • Solid understanding of SDLC and project delivery lifecycles
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across multiple seniority levels
  • Experience working with data and facilitating structured workshops

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience working with Finastra or across wider Finastra product suites
  • Professional Business Analysis certification (e.g. BCS, IIBA)
  • Experience within regulated UK banking environments
  • Familiarity with tools such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Strong awareness of customer outcomes within financial services
  • Experience working closely with Service Delivery, InfoSec and Data SMEs
  • Advanced MS Office capability
