 Overall Purpose of Job

To be responsible for the day to day running of the groups network, server and desktop infrastructure, enabling reliable access for all users across the business. Also, to be accountable and responsible for the ICT function of projects, providing infrastructure expertise to the project team

 Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain, develop and enhance the core infrastructure to ensure reliability, uptime and responsiveness, ensuring we can support our business users and customers dependent on our service
  • Plan, assign and implement a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all ICT related assets, including software, infrastructure hardware and client hardware.
  • Patch systems in line with the upgrade schedule as well as ad hoc patching for security advisories / vulnerabilities
  • Work closely with ICT Security to perform vulnerability patching, ensuring conformity to best practise and ensure ICT Security is considered throughout all projects.
  • Documentation of all areas of infrastructure processes and procedures at both summary and technical levels
  • To implement system changes in line with procedures detailing impact on services, rollout & backout plans as well as downtime.
  • Implement non business impacting standard change that contribute towards business process improvement
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with customers, 3rd party support, developers and other key professionals
  • Responsible for internal escalations, ensuring suppliers confirm to agreed SLA’s and escalations to account managers as necessary
  • Responsible for ensuring we adhere to best practices and industry standards ensuring we remain secure and compliant against governing bodies standards and security best practice
  • Proactively monitoring system performance and storage utilisation, taking appropriate preventative action to minimise problems, minimising the risk of service interruption and downtime.
  • To respond accordingly to reactive incidents as they occur and provide support ensuring internal incident management procedures are followed, remain within interdepartmental SLA’s and likely lead in the event of a major incident.
  • • Responsible for the end-to-end service lifecycle including architecture, design, development, testing and implementation of new services, changes to existing services and decommissioning historic services as they reach the end-of-life stages
  • Maintain and manage the DR solution to support the business in the event of a catastrophic failure. Ensuring data is replicated and the DR service is always available with the agreed RTO and RPO’s reducing the risk of data loss and downtime.
  • Attendance of annual conference events for system updates and collaboration with other HA's
  • Support colleagues through mentoring, knowledge sharing and support pushing self-empowerment to advance their own support cases
  • Administrate, design and enhance key operational systems

Knowledge, Skill & Experience Required

  • The ability to be able to provide simple explanations of technical matters to non-technical personnel
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation and external agencies
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Strong commitment to continual service improvement and delivering quality work at all times
  • Knowledge of project management or familiar with Project Management methodologies
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to take direction
  • The ability to openly collaborate with team members
  • Have an overall ICT awareness of hardware, software and highly skilled in all other general aspects of ICT
  • Experience of managing a virtual desktop environment, preferably Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop
  • Thorough understanding of System security including antivirus and firewalls
  • Specialist Expert knowledge and Practical experience of managing Windows 2016 / 2019 Servers / 2022 Servers / Linux Servers for hardware, software and associated applications
  • Expert knowledge of networking (IP Addressing, DHCP, DNS etc)
  • Knowledge and experience of SAN environment and infrastructure
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours in accordance with the needs of the business at minimum notice
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and complete complex workloads to meet deadlines and service requirements
