Chief Technology Officer

Chief Technology Officer

A new joint venture between a European SaaS platform and a major UK construction and infrastructure business is building a carbon focused data product for the built environment. The aim is to turn messy project and supply-chain data into decision ready insight that helps contractors win and deliver work more competitively, not just file another ESG report.

The venture is well funded, backed by private equity, and has a clear brief to build a serious market facing product rather than a side of desk innovation project. Early tools used on live projects show what is possible, the next step is to industrialise this, connect it to richer supply chain data, and layer in AI where it genuinely speeds up insight and decision making.

That is where this role comes in.

The mandate

You will be the senior technical voice for the JV, accountable for:

  • Setting the technical direction for a carbon and data platform that can scale across contractors, asset types and geographies.
  • Translating detailed user and regulatory needs into pragmatic product and delivery decisions, working with both the construction and software sides of the business.
  • Building and leading an engineering organisation that can ship iteratively, integrate with an existing SaaS ecosystem, and handle sensitive data safely and reliably.
  • Making clear calls on where to buy, partner or build, including assessing acquisitions and third party tools that strengthen the data and product story.
  • You will sit at the intersection of product, data and M&A. New capabilities may come from building in house, acquiring specialist tools, or forming deeper partnerships around carbon, materials and supply chain intelligence. Your job is to make sure the resulting stack hangs together technically and supports a coherent roadmap.

The profile

  • We are open on exact title for the right person, but you are likely today to be:
  • A Head of Engineering or VP Engineering who has owned architecture, delivery and people, and wants a broader, more commercial mandate.
  • Or a CTO in a smaller SaaS or data business who enjoys being close to the code and the customers, and is comfortable operating in and around private equity backed environments.

You will bring:

  • Background in B2B software, ideally SaaS, data platforms or workflow tools.
  • Experience leading engineers where integration, data quality and reliability mattered as much as feature velocity.
  • Ability to work with non technical stakeholders, from operations and project teams through to commercial and investment teams, and turn their language into something an engineering team can act on.
  • Interest in carbon, ESG or the built environment. Prior sector experience helps, but the ability to learn complex domains quickly matters more.

Why this, why now

If you are looking for a greenfield brief with real data, real distribution and real commercial pressure behind it, this is that moment. You would be joining as the technical leader at the point where a proven domain tool and a broad supply chain network come together, with the runway to build something that can change how decisions get made in one of the world’s most material intensive sectors.

UK based with flexible location and regular time spent with both JV partners. Package will reflect the seniority of the role and the expectation that you will be a key voice in how this business is built.
