Contract Full-Stack JavaScript Developer - React & Node

Contract Node.js & React Engineer 6-month contract (extensions likely) £400 per day – Inside IR35 60% Hybrid – Newcastle, London, Leeds or BlackpoolOpus is working with a leading consultancy delivering high-impact services for a UK Government department. We’re looking for a Node.js & React Engineer with Nunjucks experience to help build and evolve accessible, high-volume digital systems. What You’ll Be Doing

• Building user-facing features using React & TypeScript
• Developing server-side functionality with Node.js
• Working with Nunjucks templating for government service patterns
• Supporting high-traffic, transactional systems
• Writing clean, test-driven code (TDD / Jest)
• Improving CI/CD pipelines and development automation
• Contributing to ever-greening and modernisation
• Ensuring WCAG-compliant accessibility
• Collaborating across multiple agile delivery teams

Required Experience

• Strong JavaScript experience (frontend & backend)
• React with modern frontend practices
• Node.js
• Nunjucks templating experience
• TypeScript
• TDD and automated testing
• CI/CD tooling (GitLab CI, Jenkins or GitHub Actions)
• Experience delivering large-scale digital services

Nice to Have

• CASA or GOV.UK Design System experience
• SQL / NoSQL databases
• Redis or similar caching tools
• API & microservices integration
• Cloud platforms (AWS or Azure)
• Docker / containerisation exposure
• SC eligibility (not mandatory)
