Senior Backend Engineer (Java)London (Hybrid – 1 day a week in the office)Salary up to £85,000I’m partnering with a well-established product-led technology company that builds high-traffic backend platforms used by large organisations operating in highly regulated markets across the UK, North America and South America.The business has been around for many years and has grown its backend capability largely from within. They’re now looking to bring in a strong, experienced backend engineer who has seen a variety of systems and approaches elsewhere and can help elevate engineering standards, introduce best practices, and mentor the wider team.The team & culture

You’ll be working on a core, revenue-generating platform that enables clients in regulated industries to comply with strict location and usage rules.The platform integrates via SDKs into client applications and processes large volumes of real-time data to make critical decisions. It’s used by major enterprise clients and has seen significant growth over the last 5–6 years, with further scaling planned.This is business-critical software, reliability, accuracy and performance genuinely matter.The technology: Java, Springboot, Microservices, AWS, Kafka, CI/CD.The role goes beyond writing code, you’ll contribute to system design, architectural decisions, and long-term platform evolution.What they’re looking for:

• Strong background in backend engineering with Java
• Exposure to different systems, technologies or companies (start-ups are great!)
• Interested in mentoring and raising technical standards
• A holistic approach: not just “how do I code this?”, but “how should this work?”
