Technical Implementation & Software Engineer - Java/SaaS

Technical Implementation & Software Engineer is required to join an innovative early-stage technology start-up developing cloud-based SaaS solutions within the renewable energy sector.

Location: Cambridge - Hybrid Preferred/Remote UK Considered (with ocassional travel to customers)

This is a genuinely hybrid technical role combining customer-facing SaaS implementation, software configuration and customisation, complex application support and hands-on Java software development.

You'll join a small, collaborative team, working directly with customers to implement, integrate and support a sophisticated SaaS platform, while contributing to software development and product enhancements.

With approximately 60% focused on technical implementation and customer enablement and 40% on software engineering, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, writing code and taking ownership in a fast-moving start-up environment.

Key skills required for the Technical Implementation & Software Engineer
  • Experience implementing, configuring, customising and supporting complex B2B SaaS software applications.
  • Strong customer-facing technical experience, including requirements gathering, software implementation and stakeholder management.
  • Experience in application support, incident management, troubleshooting, debugging and root cause analysis.
  • Hands-on Java development experience, ideally with some exposure to Spring Boot, Micronaut or similar frameworks.
  • Understanding of APIs, third-party integrations, microservices and modern software architectures.
  • Exposure to some of the following would be advantageous:
    • AWS, cloud infrastructure and CI/CD
    • Kubernetes, Docker or containerised applications
    • Kafka and event-driven architectures
    • IoT, connected devices or hardware engineering
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a proactive, adaptable approach suited to an early-stage start-up.
You don't need to tick every technical box. We're particularly interested in candidates who combine customer-facing SaaS implementation and support experience with practical Java development skills and a willingness to learn.

What you'll do as a Technical Implementation & Software Engineer
  • Implement, configure and customise a complex SaaS platform to meet customer requirements.
  • Work directly with customers and third-party partners to deliver technical implementations and integrations.
  • Troubleshoot complex application issues, manage incidents and support production environments.
  • Write, modify and test Java code, contributing to integrations, bug fixes and new functionality.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering and Product teams on development, testing and continuous delivery.
  • Build and support APIs, third-party integrations and connected IoT devices.
  • Contribute to platform reliability, technical improvements and product development based on customer feedback.
Why this role?
  • Early-stage start-up - join a small, ambitious team where your contribution will have a genuine impact.
  • Implementation meets engineering - a unique 60/40 blend of customer-facing technical delivery and hands-on software development.
  • Modern technology - work with Java, cloud technologies, microservices, CI/CD and IoT.
  • Ownership and influence - help shape the product, solve real customer challenges and contribute to the company's growth.
  • Salary £45k-£60k + benefits + share options - an opportunity to grow alongside the business.
  • Flexible working - Cambridge hybrid preferred, with remote UK candidates considered who can travel for occasional customer meetings. (Must be eligible to work)
  • Purpose-driven technology - help accelerate the transition towards renewable energy.
This opportunity could suit a Technical Implementation Engineer, Java Software Engineer, Integration Engineer, Technical Consultant or Application Support Engineer who enjoys combining customer-facing technical delivery with hands-on software engineering.
