Senior Data Engineer | Hedge Fund
Data Engineer | London | Global Hedge Fund | Python/ETL
I'm working with a leading global hedge fund that is looking to hire a Data Developer & Engineer into its Reporting & Analytics team in London.
This is a broad engineering role sitting between software engineering, data engineering, database architecture and reporting systems development.
You'll work on business-critical platforms supporting P&L, operational reporting, analytics, treasury and risk workflows, partnering closely with stakeholders across the firm.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop data models, reporting solutions and analytics platforms
- Build and enhance ETL pipelines and data processing workflows
- Develop applications and tooling using Python
- Design and optimise database schemas and reporting architectures
- Create and tune complex SQL queries for reporting, reconciliation and analytics
- Work directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions
- Support and modernise existing reporting and analytics platforms
Requirements
- 5+ years of software and/or data engineering experience
- Strong development experience in Python or C#, ideally both
- Expert-level SQL skills
- Strong experience with relational databases, data modelling and schema design
- Experience building ETL pipelines and data-driven applications
- Strong problem-solving ability and a genuine interest in understanding systems end-to-end
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with business users
Nice to Have
- Experience with modern data warehousing architectures
- Exposure to ClickHouse or other columnar databases
- Experience using AI/LLM tooling within engineering workflows
- Financial services experience, although this is not required
This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy operating across application development, databases, reporting systems and data engineering, rather than specialising in just one area.
