Senior Data Engineer

Our client is seeking an Interim Senior Data Engineer for the Energy Sector to join their team on a temporary-to-permanent basis, tackling complex data challenges that impact the Dutch energy transition. You will contribute to the digital backbone of the energy sector. Your data solutions provide key insights that help improve our services and ensure a smarter, more sustainable energy system in the Netherlands.

Salary:        €50K–€80K (depending on seniority), incl. 8% holiday allowance + mobility budget or a ease car.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of Data and IT, building high-impact data solutions

• Design and maintain data pipelines and data lakes
• Develop and implement ETL logic and data models for high-performance analysis
• Help build a modern data analytics platform with reusable data products
• Ensure a solid IT foundation for secure, efficient data product development
• Operate in an Agile environment with a continuous focus on automation and standardisation
• Enable data-driven insights such as energy consumption, allocation, and congestion metrics
• Work within a privacy-compliant framework (GDPR/AVG)

• To be detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of handling complex data transformations.
• You’re comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, with a clear drive to standardise and automate where possible.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field
• 5+ years of proven experience as a Data Engineer
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Experience with data modelling, data warehouses, data lakes, and ETL
• Familiarity with cloud-based BI solutions
• Experience with dimensional modelling
• Solid analytical and communication skills
• Fluent in Dutch (written and spoken)

The following is preferable but not essential for the Senior Data Engineer role:

• Experience in the energy sector (especially grid operators)
• Hands-on with GitLab, Snowflake, Tableau, DBT, Python, and/or web analytics
