About The Role
Orchestrade is looking for an Energy & Commodity Business Analyst with a strong focus on Back Office and Accounting, to become a key owner of our ETRM Back Office & Accounting framework.
This role is about more than gathering requirements: you will help standardize and industrialize our Back Office and accounting capabilities across clients across the oil, gas, power, certificates, and metals financial and physical markets. You will define and maintain the standard (out-of-the-box) Back Office & Accounting setup, write and curate functional documentation, and act as a functional reference during implementations and go-lives.
You will work across the full trade lifecycle - from deal capture to settlement, invoicing, payments, accounting postings, accruals, close processes, and regulatory reporting - ensuring Orchestrade supports robust, auditable, and scalable operational and financial processes for energy and commodity trading firms. The BA team combines deep business understanding with a strong grasp of the system’s underlying design, enabling tight collaboration with development teams.
You will act as the internal reference for Back Office & Accounting across Energy & Commodities, ensuring consistency of delivery, promoting standardization, and accelerating client implementations.
Responsibilities:
- Become a functional owner of the ETRM Back Office & Accounting domain within Orchestrade for Energy & Commodities
- Define, maintain, and continuously improve the standard (out-of-the-box) Back Office & Accounting setup, including configuration guidelines and best practices
- Capture, review, and analyze client requirements related to: Accounting postings / journal entries, accounting events, accounting calendars, close processes; Accruals, deferrals, realized/unrealized P&L, fees, premiums, interest, price/volume adjustments; Settlement workflows, invoicing, payments, confirmations, netting; Operational controls, reconciliations, audit trails, and exception management; Regulatory / management reporting needs
- Design scalable solutions and write functional specifications for development teams (and configuration specs where relevant)
- Contribute to integration designs and functional validation for ERP interfaces (e.g., SAP), including mapping of accounting outputs, reference data alignment, posting logic, and file/API specifications
- Run and support functional testing
- Support client implementations end-to-end on the Back Office & Accounting stream
- Produce and maintain high-quality documentation: standard operating procedures, setup guides, configuration playbooks and implementation checklists
- Provide training to clients and internal teams on Back Office & Accounting workflows and standard setup
- Contribute to product roadmap by identifying key product features to implement
- Ensure high software quality and consistency across clients by promoting standardization and reducing one-off configurations
Qualifications:
- MS degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, or related fields
- Proven experience on ETRM Back Office and Accounting topics (as BA, functional consultant, product specialist, or similar)
- Strong understanding of the trade lifecycle for commodities/energy, especially: Settlements, invoicing, payments, cash management interfaces; Accounting postings (journal entries), accounting events, accruals, close processes; Reconciliations, controls, and auditability requirements
- Experience with ERP / GL integration is a strong plus, especially SAP interface topics (IDoc/file/API-based), mapping, and reconciliation
- Exposure to regulatory reporting constraints or reporting-driven data quality requirements is a plus (depending on client context)
- Ability to read and understand object-oriented code (C#) to investigate behavior, support discussions with developers, and validate implementations
- Results-oriented, analytical, pragmatic, and comfortable taking ownership of a domain and pushing standardization
- Strong communication skills and ability to run client workshops and drive alignment across stakeholders
- High attention to detail; able to produce clear documentation and robust test packs
- Proven expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: Commodity/energy back-office operations; Accounting processes and posting logic in trading environments; Settlements, invoicing, and payment workflows; ERP integration and reconciliation (SAP strongly valued)
