Assistant Cartographer
Assistant Cartographer - Full Time - Salary £26,451 - Hybrid working
Our Cartography team plays a key role in ensuring OS deliver geospatial changes and we're looking for people to join us. Our mission is to work across the business to provide key updates to contextual products and support Ordnance Survey's world-renowned series mapping.
As an Assistant Cartographer, you will contribute to the creation and maintenance of high-quality geospatial data and cartographic products. You'll work within a collaborative team environment, applying generalisation techniques and cartographic principles to ensure data consistency and usability. This role is ideal for someone with a keen eye for detail, a passion for maps and geography, and a desire to develop technical skills in geospatial data handling.
Key Responsibilities for the entry level role:

Edit and maintain geospatial datasets using agreed specifications and cartographic techniques.

Learn to apply generalisation methods when adding real world change to deliver product consistency.

Learn to Identify and highlight data quality issues to meet defined standards.

Deliver work to agreed timescales and quality benchmarks.

Collaborate with internal teams to support delivery of product updates.

Contribute to the development and delivery of cartographic products and services.

Maintain accurate records of time spent on the tasks you have been allocated.

Support the integration of new technologies and tools into cartographic workflows.
Here is a snapshot of the technologies that we use: Esri ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMAP), ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat, FME. Any experience in these is beneficial, but we will provide all training needed.
What we're looking for
For this entry level position, we're seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual with a foundational understanding of cartography and geospatial data. You'll be comfortable working with digital mapping tools and have a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. Full training will be supplied with the opportunity for progression to a Cartographer role after two years providing you meet the required standards.

Location: We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, where you will be required to complete your initial training in person Monday to Friday for two weeks, followed by a minimum of 2-3 days a week working in office for in-person connection.
