Summary
Oscar Technology are working with a technology-focused organisation that is enhancing its internal security capability and looking for an experienced Cyber Security Manager to lead their cyber defence function. This position is suited to someone with a strong technical security background who can drive strategy, uplift security maturity, and oversee incident response activities.
You will be responsible for safeguarding the business's infrastructure, digital assets, and data by shaping security processes, managing risk, and leading a team of cyber security engineers. The role involves close collaboration with IT, network teams, and senior stakeholders to identify vulnerabilities, mature detection capabilities, and ensure compliance with recognised security frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of cyber security engineers, providing technical and strategic direction.
- Oversee security operations including monitoring, incident management, and threat response.
- Conduct assessments across the IT estate to identify risks and emerging threats.
- Manage security events from detection through to remediation, ensuring timely and effective responses.
- Drive improvements to the organisation's security posture in line with a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
- Maintain adherence to relevant security standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Oversee vulnerability management activities and ensure effective patch governance.
- Support cloud security programmes and the development of secure architecture patterns.
- Lead enhancements to threat detection, SIEM/SOC processes, and endpoint security controls.
- Provide clear communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding risks, incidents, and mitigation strategies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong background in a senior or lead IT security role.
- Experience managing or mentoring technical security teams.
- Professional certifications such as CISM, CISSP, CCSP, GICSP, or equivalent knowledge.
- Ability to communicate complex cyber risks to a range of audiences, including senior leadership.
- Hands-on experience with:
- SIEM/SOC operations
- XDR/EDR platforms and vulnerability management tools
- Cloud security controls and best practices
- CNAPP or similar cloud-native protection solutions
- Working knowledge of frameworks such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, NIST.
- Expertise in threat detection, incident analysis, and network security fundamentals.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience within regulated or specialised industries.
- Exposure to delivering or auditing compliance programmes.
- Familiarity with BCP/DR planning and tabletop exercises.
- Strong ability to prioritise incidents and manage complex workloads.
- Knowledge of digital forensics or investigation methodologies.
