The Opportunity

I'm currently working with a rapidly growing organisation in the food services sector that is looking to hire an Analytics Engineer to help build and shape its in-house analytics capability.

This is a key role within the business, focused on reducing reliance on third-party suppliers and contractors while developing a scalable, modern data platform that supports decision-making across multiple business functions.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), you'll work closely with stakeholders across Operations, Finance, Marketing, and IT to deliver robust data solutions, actionable insights, and a best-in-class analytics environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and develop the organisation's in-house analytics capability.
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using Python and dbt to ingest data from multiple business systems and APIs.
  • Develop and manage dimensional data models within Snowflake using SQLMesh, dbt, or similar technologies.
  • Optimise Snowflake performance and drive cost-efficient data platform management.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence teams to deliver meaningful insights and support reporting through Power BI and Metabase.
  • Ensure data is accessible, reliable, governed, and well-documented through metadata management tools.
  • Manage and prioritise a backlog of data requirements across the business.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD practices and version control using GitHub.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Support data quality, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the company's data and analytics strategy.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in an Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, Analytics Developer, or similar role.
  • Advanced SQL skills and strong production-level Python development experience.
  • Strong experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud-based data platforms.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining data pipelines and ELT processes.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional data modelling using SQLMesh, dbt, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with Git workflows, including branching, pull requests, and CI/CD practices.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
  • Experience delivering scalable and reliable data solutions within a commercial environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience within food services, hospitality, retail, education, or related sectors.
  • Familiarity with metadata and data cataloguing tools such as OpenMetadata.
  • Experience supporting Power BI, Metabase, or similar reporting platforms.
  • Understanding of modern data platform architecture and cloud data ecosystems.
  • Experience working within fast-growing or transformational environments.
  • Ability to communicate data insights and business value to senior stakeholders.
