Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Platform Engineer (VMware / Platform)

Location: Leeds (Hybrid)

Salary £50,000+

The Role

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of a large-scale VMware and platform environment within a multi-site enterprise business.

This role is focused on engineering, support, and continuous improvement of core infrastructure platforms, working closely with internal teams to ensure systems are stable, secure, and operating at peak performance.

You’ll act as a senior escalation point, play a key role in platform lifecycle management, and support the delivery of infrastructure projects across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage core VMware platforms (vSphere, vSAN, VCF) across multiple environments
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure and platform issues
• Deliver platform upgrades, patching, and maintenance with minimal disruption
• Support infrastructure projects including migrations, upgrades, and system improvements
• Manage platform lifecycle and ensure systems remain secure and up to date
• Enforce change management processes and best practice across the environment
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
• Work closely with operations and support teams to ensure smooth service delivery

Tech Environment

• VMware (vSphere, vSAN, VCF)
• Windows Server / Linux
• Azure / M365 / Entra ID
• Backup solutions (Veeam, Zerto, etc.)
• Monitoring tools (PRTG, SolarWinds, SCOM)

What We’re Looking For

• Strong hands-on experience managing VMware environments at scale
• Proven background in infrastructure support and platform engineering
• Experience handling 3rd line / escalation-level issues
• Solid understanding of system lifecycle management, patching, and upgrades
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Ability to work across teams in a fast-paced environment
