Job Title: Defence Solution Developer Location: Filton (Onsite, 37 hours per week)Client: BAE Systems Clearance Level: BPSS + SC + UK EYES ONLY Duration: 12 Months (with opportunity for extension)Hourly Rate: £72.54 Umbrella (INSIDE IR35) Overview BAE Systems Air – Future Combat Air Systems (Defence Information) is seeking an experienced Solution Developer to join the Defence Communications & Networks Engineering team. This role provides core systems integration capability within a lab-based development environment and will suit individuals with a background in military communication systems, networking, and systems integration. Ex-military experience or prior work within a military environment is highly desirable.Candidates will be required to undertake 2–3 weeks of training at Christchurch prior to commencing work in Filton.Key Responsibilities
- Integrate hardware and software components into tactical military communication systems.
- Support the Solution Architect with system architecture development and subsystem design.
- Develop, configure, and integrate communication systems in line with approved designs.
- Undertake unit testing, debugging, and support verification and validation activities.
- Assist the Solution Tester with defining and structuring system tests.
- Collaborate with engineering and project stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Maintain high standards of safety, health, and environmental compliance in line with company policy.
- Windows/Linux management systems used for provisioning Android devices.
- Integration and testing of ATAK plugins and applications.
- Working in an Agile environment with iterative development practices.
- Understanding of JSON, Command Prompt, and PowerShell.
- Experience with tactical radios (HF, VHF, UHF, MESH, MANET) in dismounted settings.
- Practical application of TCP/IP networking for MANET-focused communication plans.
- Work package delivery using JIRA and Confluence.
- Ability to update and maintain technical publications and design documents.
- Strong troubleshooting and hands-on deployment skills, ideally in field environments.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment.
