Infrastructure Platform Engineer

Job Title: Infrastructure Platform Engineer Client:  BAE Systems Location: Warton Duration: 6 - 12 Months, 37hrs per week (with opportunity for extension)Hourly Rate: £74.26 Umbrella (INSIDE IR35)Clearance Level: BPSS + SC + UK EYES ONLY About the Role We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to design, build and support secure, scalable hosting environments for engineering and software development workloads in a highly regulated defence environment.You’ll work across physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure — ensuring reliability, security, and compliance across all systems.This role is part of the Technical Services team, collaborating with Network, Security, and Platform Engineers to deliver and operate modern, resilient infrastructure solutions.Key Responsibilities

• Implement, maintain and enhance infrastructure hosting across on-prem and cloud environments.
• Build and administer Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and virtualised systems (VMware / Hyper-V).
• Deploy and manage containerised platforms (Docker / Kubernetes).
• Support automation and CI/CD tooling using Terraform, GitLab, or similar.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, security, and compliance with governance standards.
• Contribute to technical design documentation and delivery planning.
• Work closely with architecture and security teams to integrate new technologies.

Skills and Experience Essential:

• 3+ years’ experience in infrastructure or platform engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Windows and Linux administration, cloud services (Azure / AWS), and virtualisation.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, Ansible).
• Understanding of networking concepts (VLANs, VNets, SDN, Firewalls).
• Experience operating in secure or regulated environments.
