Field Applications Engineer
Are you an experienced Applications Engineer We are looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer with a passion for solution sales to join our client’s team, a successful growing business in the Basingstoke area. Field Applications Engineer Electronics Manufacturing £50,000 - £60,000 dependant on experience Car allowance, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, Christmas shutdown, 9% pension Basingstoke Role overview The mission of the Field Applications Engineer is to effectively sell and promote all services to prospects by using their technical knowledge and expertise to engage with them on a technical and commercial basis. This involves having an in depth understanding of our capabilities and direction and well as quickly being able to understand customer stated and unstated requirements. Additionally, the Field Applications Engineer will need to manage the onboarding of new projects into all areas of the business such as Operations and Engineering. This will involve ensuring the customer supplied information is of an acceptable standard to define a mission objective that is within our capabilities. They will then ensure the relevant team understand the mission objective around time scales required for generating costings, customers desired product delivery dates and what the communications thread with the customer will look like going forward.Key Responsibilities and Duties The Field Applications Engineer has numerous responsibilities and duties within the sales department as well as in supporting the rest of the business on a technical basis. The core items are: Overall technical and commercial responsibility for the conversion of prospects into manufacturing and engineering customers, including:
- Attending prospect and customer sites and working with them to help them to identify their current and future needs and how we can help them achieve their goals
- Working with Production Engineers, Planners, Engineering Management and the Technical Lead to understand the technical and logistical viability of prospective projects
- Working with Finance and wider sales department to ensure the commercial viability of prospective projects and to select the most appropriate margin
- Performing initial first pass inspection of customer supplied data to evaluate if it is of the required standard to hand over to Engineering and Operations for detailed processing
- Generation of requirements documents that contain the minimum level of detail required for the Operations or Engineering Teams to be able to provide an estimated cost
- Generation of RFQ tracker forms
- Setting the costing turnaround time target for the Operations and Engineering Teams for each individual project to meet customer demand
- Working with your sales colleague to provide unified priorities to other departments if multiple jobs need costing at the same time
- Generation of quotation documents and their internal review process before deploying them to the customer. Managing the follow up communications with the customer to convert the quotation into an order
- Generation of sales handover documents and managing the handover process of orders into Operations and Engineering
- Working with the Marketing team to sure they understand and market our capabilities accurately
- Identifying and attending trade shows etc to increase the profile of the organisation
- To stay abreast of current technologies and processes and make suggestions where they could be used within the business
- Providing education and support around estimating the effort required for projects that are not well defined to help generate a rough order of magnitude cost
- Providing support to production engineering and engineering based on discussions with the customer
- Ensuring compliance with ISO9001 and other relevant quality standards/procedures. This includes reporting any deviations from these standards/procedures, completing corrective actions and making recommendations to prevent similar deviations in the future.
- Take reasonable care for your own Health and Safety and the Health and Safety of those around you, or those who may be affected by your actions
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, embedded/software or hardware
- Proven experience in a customer-facing technical, applications engineering, or sales engineering role.
- Strong technical knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes.
- acAbility to analyze and interpret customer-supplied engineering data to support project feasibility and cost estimation.
- Skilled in preparing quotations, RFQs, requirements documentation, and project handovers.
- Knowledge of ISO9001 standards and experience ensuring compliance with quality procedures.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites, trade shows, and industry events as required
