Job summary

We are currently recruiting for Failsafe Officer to join our team at Oxford Hospitals NHS FT. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, organised and diligent individual with good IT skills, to assist, develop and effectively manage databases to failsafe Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes within OUHFT.

The successful candidate will ensure that failsafe processes and screening pathways are completed in a safe and timely manner and work within the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team to make essential contribution to ensure high standards of care for all the maternity population.

The Failsafe Officer will also work in conjunction with the members of the multi-disciplinary team andassist in any clinical audit using appropriate audit tools to evaluate and develop best practice.

Previous experience in Antenatal and Newborn screening is desirable. If no previous experience a full induction programme will be provided.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional and Clinical Responsibilities

The Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) failsafe officer supports the Antenatal and Newborn Screening team in the collation and entry of data for the Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes, Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy, Downs syndrome screening and Fetal Anomaly Screening, Haemoglobinopathy screening, Newborn Infant Physical examination, Newborn Hearing and Newborn Bloodspot Screening, also including relevant vaccination programmes.

The Failsafe officer will identify screening coverage of the eligible population.

To work closely within the Antenatal and Newborn Screening team to facilitate failsafe mechanisms to identify and prevent missed screening opportunities and maintain an audit trail for all the above-mentioned screening programmes.

The ANNB failsafe officer alongside the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team will also maintain and evolve mechanisms to collect cohort data for the key performance indicators (KPI).

The ANNB failsafe officer will be expected to communicate with other professionals involved in the screening process, to participate in the organisation of meetings, potentially take minutes for the meetings, preparation of teaching materials.

The post holder will work flexibly within the service to meet operational demands. This includes working clinically where required.

Education and Qualifications

Essential
  • Experience of using a full range of IT/Patient data systems including;
  • Completion or willingness to complete Care Certificate
  • Good level of spoken and written English
Desirable
  • Administrative experience
  • Experience working within a maternity setting

Experience and Skills

  • Previous NHS Experience
