Sobell House Fellow

Job summary

This post is very kindly supported financially by Sobell House Hospice Charity and employed via the NHS.

The post holder's duties will be primarily at Churchill Hospital, Oxford, or the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital, Oxford, but it is a condition of all appointments that post holders would be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.

Depending on specialty the post holder will be offered clinical time in the relevant home team within the trust as per their needs e.g. theatre time, clinic time etc. to ensure maintenance of competence and opportunities for development. Further conversations with the OxMINT group and visits are encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The aim of this fellowship is to offer a 40/60 split of clinical service provision with protected time to undertake a project establishing and developing a service for the management of metastatic bone pain. OxMINT (the Oxford Metastatic Intervention Team) within the trust consists of Palliative Medicine Physicians, Clinical Oncologists, Interventional Radiologists, Spinal and General Orthopaedic Surgeons, Neurosurgeons and Pain Specialist Anaesthetists and has been created in the last year. The group recognises the need to greater protocolise the management of pain in patients with metastatic bone disease and to that end is advertising this fellowship with the aim of building this service to the point of sustainability as well as a desire to enable data capture and analysis for international publication.

It is anticipated that this post will provide an excellent opportunity for senior trainees in any of the above specialties looking to take an OOP to gather in depth experience of symptom management or pain management work. This post offers the chance for a senior clinician to develop and demonstrate service design and implementation skills in a Shelford Group trust.
