Senior Backend Developer

Position: Senior Back End Developer

Location: UK – Fully Remote

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000

We’re working with a forward-thinking technology-led organisation that’s looking to hire a Senior Back End Developer to join one of their high-performing engineering teams. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about building scalable software, enjoys mentoring others, and wants to play a key role in shaping backend architecture within a modern, agile environment.

The Business places a strong emphasis on continuous improvement both technically and culturally and encourages engineers to explore new technologies, challenge existing ways of working, and contribute to the evolution of their engineering practices.

The Role

You’ll join a cross-functional product squad, typically made up of Back End and Front-End Developers, QA Engineers, UX Designers, Content Specialists and a Product Manager, with additional support from Architects and Staff Engineers.

Each squad owns the full lifecycle of its products, so you’ll be involved from initial discovery and planning through to build, release and ongoing monitoring. The team works in two-week sprints and follows Agile best practices.

As a Senior / Lead Back End Engineer, your role will balance hands-on development with leadership responsibilities. You’ll provide technical direction, coach and mentor developers, contribute to architectural decisions, and support multidisciplinary delivery across the squad.

Development is centred around a Microservices architecture, with involvement in legacy systems.

Beyond squad work, you’ll be part of the Back End Chapter, collaborating on technology choices, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
