Position: Project Engineer
Location: Newbury & Surrounding areas ( Hybrid )

Primary Purpose
You will play a key role in the planning, delivery and ongoing support of client technology solutions. The role combines project implementation with hands-on field engineering, working both on-site and remotely to ensure client systems are deployed, maintained and supported to a high standard. You will work closely with the Project Management Office, clients and the Service Desk to understand requirements, deliver projects in line with agreed scope, resolve complex technical issues and ensure a smooth transition into ongoing support.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the PMO to ensure successful delivery of projects, meeting client requirements, agreed scope, timelines and quality standards, with consistent communication and alignment between stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and quality check Statements of Work (SOWs) from a technical delivery perspective before project commencement, validating that the proposed solution, scope, assumptions, dependencies, technical requirements, resource requirements and estimated effort are clear, accurate and deliverable. Identify and escalate gaps, risks or ambiguities before work is scheduled or commenced.
- Complete Statements of Work (SOWs) for project delivery where required, providing additional support and resilience within the Professional Services function when there is a need to cover periods of holiday, workload pressure or other operational demands.
- Track all project activities in Autotask, following established procedures for project tracking, updates and reporting. Ensure milestones, tasks, risks, issues and actions are documented promptly to maintain clear visibility for the wider team.
- Plan and deliver technical implementations on client sites and remotely, including installation, configuration, migration, upgrade and remediation activity across supported technologies.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues and provide technical assistance on client sites, acting as an escalation point and providing technical advice to Service Desk engineers where required.
- Complete proactive maintenance on client sites and identify opportunities to improve the resilience, security, performance and efficiency of client systems and services.
- Prepare, maintain and deliver comprehensive client documentation, ensuring technical details, configurations and system information are accurate and updated in IT Glue and shared with the Service Desk to support a smooth handover into ongoing support.
- Uphold the highest standards of information security by following company policies and procedures and supporting compliance with relevant industry regulation, data protection requirements and the company's Information Security Management System (ISMS).
- Take ownership of technical activities within client onboarding and offboarding, ensuring systems, access, documentation and data are handled appropriately and transitions are completed efficiently and securely.
- Provide timely and professional updates to clients and internal stakeholders, setting clear expectations and communicating technical information in an accessible way.
- Provide out-of-hours or standby support to clients on a rota basis where required.
Experience:
- Previous experience within a similar field-based, project engineering or Professional Services role, ideally within an MSP environment.
- Ability to work unsupervised, independently and as part of a wider technical and project team.
- Strong all-round knowledge of IT principles with a versatile approach to new technologies and demonstrable learning capability.
- Experience with PSA/RMM and documentation tools such as Autotask, AEM and IT Glue would be advantageous.
- Experience administering and supporting Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop environments.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, including email migrations, Intune deployment, Azure Information Protection, Azure AD Join, AD Connect, SharePoint Online, DLP and MDM.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server and related server roles (IIS/RDS/DFS/NPS).
- Experience with Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Azure IaaS and Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and/or VMware vSphere and vCentre.
- Experience configuring Multi-Factor Authentication and Conditional Access for Microsoft 365 and related technologies.
- Experience with backup and DR technologies, including Datto.
- Experience with firewall technologies, including WatchGuard.
- Detailed knowledge of switching and routing, including VLANs and networking technologies such as TCP/IP, VPN, DHCP, DNS and SSL; experience with Aruba, Cisco and UniFi is advantageous.
- Experience building and supporting wireless networks.
- Ability to run, patch and terminate cabling to support installation of new hardware.
- IT-related degree or relevant technical qualifications are desirable, including MD-102, CompTIA Network+ or equivalent certifications.
