Lead Day Technician
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Lead Day Technician to join our Data Centre Facilities team in Harlow. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation, maintenance, and reliability of essential infrastructure within a high-availability environment.
As the Lead Day Technician, you will act as a senior point of contact on shift, overseeing technical operations, supporting junior team members, and ensuring all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily facilities operations within the data centre environment
- Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works across critical systems (HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution, etc.)
- Act as the primary escalation point for technical issues during day shifts
- Ensure adherence to health & safety policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Supervise contractors and third-party vendors on site
- Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and reporting of all activities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and efficiency
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a data centre or critical environment (or similar high-risk facility)
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical systems
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., electrical/mechanical certifications, HNC/HND or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of health & safety regulations and compliance standards
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform under pressure
- Strong communication and team leadership capabilities
