Role Overview

As a Web Developer at Paramount Digital, you’ll play a key role in building and maintaining high-quality websites and applications for our clients. This role combines experience in WordPress and Laravel development, with opportunities to contribute to a wide range of projects from custom plugin development and API integrations to front-end builds and ongoing site support.

You’ll work closely with senior developers who will provide guidance and mentorship, helping you refine your skills and grow your expertise. While your day-to-day focus will be on technical development, you may also get the chance to collaborate directly with clients or handle quick fixes when urgent issues arise, giving you exposure to the full lifecycle of web projects

Role Expectations

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Laravel applications (including TALL stack projects), taking ownership of day-to-day Laravel work within the team.
• Build and extend bespoke WordPress sites, themes, and plugins using PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript.
• Integrate and configure third-party APIs, plugins, and services, tailoring functionality to client needs.
• Write clean, well-documented, and scalable code while following team standards and best practices.
• Ensure all sites and apps are responsive, accessible, and optimised for speed and performance.
• Apply technical SEO practices, caching, and other optimisations to improve site performance.
• Use Git for version control: branching, pull requests, and collaborating with peers through code reviews.
• Support live environments with updates, patches, and troubleshooting when issues arise.
• Join project scoping sessions and stand-ups to help shape technical approaches to client needs.
• Communicate progress clearly to the team and provide updates on fixes and feature delivery.
• Bring your Laravel experience into the mix, helping strengthen the team’s capabilities across multiple stacks

Required Skills & Experience

• 3 + years web development experience, ideally with exposure to both Laravel and WordPress projects.
• Strong proficiency in Laravel, with practical experience in at least some of the TALL stack (Tailwind, Alpine.js, Livewire, Laravel).
• Solid knowledge of WordPress: custom themes, plugins, custom post types, ACF, and integrations.
• Strong understanding of PHP 7/8, with OOP principles and best practices.
• Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+) for building maintainable front-end functionality.
• Experience with SQL databases, schema design, migrations, and API integration (REST/GraphQL).
• Confident using Git and familiar with collaborative workflows (feature branching, pull requests).
• Awareness of CI/CD pipelines, testing, and deployment (or willingness to develop these skills).
• Good grasp of performance optimisation and security best practices.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical colleagues.
• A proactive learner with ambition to deepen Laravel expertise while broadening WordPress capability.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue.js) and headless CMS architectures.
• Familiarity with Composer and PHP package management.
• Exposure to containerisation and cloud deployments (e.g. Docker, AWS, serverless functions).
• Knowledge of build tools (Webpack, Vite, Gulp) and package managers (npm, Yarn).
• Experience with caching solutions (e.g. Redis) for performance optimisation.
• Exposure to automated testing (PHPUnit, Jest, or similar) and basic knowledge of linters (ESLint, PHPCS).
• Interest in performance monitoring and analytics tools (Google Analytics, GTM, Lighthouse, New Relic).
• Familiarity with A/B testing tools (e.g. VWO) for experimentation.
• Experience with animation libraries (GSAP, Motion) and modern CSS techniques for rich UI interactions.
