Senior Software Project Manager

Senior Software Project Manager

Oxfordshire | Hybrid, one day a week in the office | Permanent

£60,000 to £70,000 plus corporate benefits

An established, Agile software house is hiring its first dedicated Senior Project Manager to lead a major, business-critical programme: replacing a legacy ERP with a modern enterprise platform for one of their largest customers. It is a long-running, incremental build, and the person who takes it on will own it from planning through to go-live, then go on to shape project delivery across the whole business.

This is a real blank canvas. The company has grown quickly and delivered well, but has never had a dedicated PM, so you would look at how things run today, put the right governance, controls, reporting and process in place, and set the standard for how delivery works.

You would work from within the software development team, leading the SDLC and protecting the sprint cycle, while holding the longer-term plan together, reconciling two-weekly Agile delivery with a multi-year roadmap and realistic estimates. You will need the credibility to influence and, when needed, push back, both internally and with senior stakeholders on the customer side.

They want an experienced Senior PM who has led large, complicated software projects end to end, ideally including replacing a legacy or bespoke system with a modern platform, and who is comfortable being the person who brings order and knows what good looks like.

The day-to-day:

  • Owning a large, long-running software programme end to end, from planning through incremental releases to go-live
  • Standing up delivery governance, controls, reporting and process from scratch as the first PM
  • Leading the SDLC from within the development team, protecting the sprint cycle and delivery cadence
  • Holding two-weekly Agile delivery and long-term programme planning together, with realistic estimates
  • Coordinating internal teams, the customer and third-party suppliers
  • Managing scope, budget, risk, dependencies and quality, and keeping planning tools current
  • Influencing and managing senior stakeholders across technical and non-technical audiences

What you'll bring:

  • A track record leading large, complex software projects from initiation to completion, from inside a development team
  • Experience replacing legacy or bespoke systems with modern enterprise platforms
  • Confidence setting up governance, controls and process where formal PM is new or still developing
  • A strong grasp of Agile alongside long-term programme planning
  • The gravitas to influence and push back with senior stakeholders
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ or PMP, or equivalent experience
