Business Analyst - VAT Merge Discovery Programme
Location: Hybrid /Milton Keynes
Contract: 6 months
Rate: £300/400 per day
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to lead the business analysis workstream for a high-profile VAT Merge Discovery Programme. This is a critical role that will sit at the heart of a complex business and technology initiative, working closely with Finance, business stakeholders and technical teams to understand current processes, define future-state requirements and establish the foundation for successful solution delivery.
This assignment requires a proactive and highly organised BA who can confidently engage with senior stakeholders, facilitate workshops, document complex system interactions and drive consensus across multiple business areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the business analysis activities for the VAT Merge discovery phase.
- Engage Finance and business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand current processes, requirements and challenges.
- Analyse and document interactions across eight impacted business systems and interfaces.
- Map and validate end-to-end VAT transaction flows across the organisation.
- Define and document current and future-state business processes.
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder reviews to gather and validate requirements.
- Produce a comprehensive Business Requirements Document (BRD) in line with organisational standards.
- Manage stakeholder engagement and governance activities throughout the discovery phase.
- Secure formal sign-off from business process owners and system owners.
- Work collaboratively with IT and delivery teams to ensure requirements provide a clear baseline for solution design, development and testing.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience delivering business analysis activities within complex transformation, finance or ERP-related programmes.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and challenge at all levels.
- Experience facilitating workshops and requirements gathering sessions.
- Excellent process mapping and documentation skills.
- Demonstrable experience producing high-quality Business Requirements Documents (BRDs).
- Strong understanding of system integrations, data flows and business processes.
- Experience working closely with Finance teams and finance-related business change initiatives is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and drive outcomes within ambiguous environments.
Key Deliverables
The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving the following outcomes:
- Documentation and validation of all eight impacted systems and interfaces.
- Approved end-to-end VAT transaction flow documentation.
- Agreed future-state processes with Finance and key business stakeholders.
- Completion of a high-quality BRD aligned to business standards.
- Formal sign-off from all relevant business process and system owners.
- Requirements accepted by IT and implementation teams as the baseline for subsequent solution design, build and testing activities.
