Data Center Engineer
Data Centre Engineer | Managed Services | SC Clearance Eligible | Newcastle | £40,000–£45,000
We’re partnered with a leading managed services provider that’s continuing to invest across its data centre operations function.
They’re looking for a Data Centre Engineer to support a large and diverse customer base, keeping service levels on track, tickets fully updated, and critical environments running smoothly.
This is a hands-on role across server, network, storage, cabling, power and DCIM, working closely with internal teams, data centre specialists, managed services and third-party providers.
The role will cover things like:
- Installing, patching and configuring bespoke data centre environments across network, server and storage hardware
- Troubleshooting and replacing components across servers, switches, firewalls, storage arrays and managed service platforms
- Supporting LAN connectivity issues and helping teams regain remote access through SSH, RDP, Terminal Services and remote access controllers
- Installing and configuring intelligent PDUs, supporting power monitoring and load balancing
- Working with DCIM tooling to keep asset tracking, capacity and documentation accurate
- Managing access, remote hands, deliveries and third-party technician visits into data centre environments
- Supporting structured cabling faults, copper and fibre deployments, testing and escalation where needed
- Producing reporting across space, power and cabling capacity
- Working within strict change control, ISO, ITIL and data centre best practice standards
You’ll suit this role if you’ve worked in a managed hosting, public cloud, private cloud or enterprise data centre environment and enjoy being close to the infrastructure.
The team needs someone organised, calm under pressure and comfortable working independently, while still being able to communicate clearly with internal teams, customers and external providers.
Experience across server, storage and network deployment, break-fix support, data centre power/cooling basics and DCIM tooling would be highly relevant. Experience with NLyte, hyperscale cloud environments or structured cabling design/deployment would be a strong bonus.
You’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to your own car, as some travel will be required. Where travel is by train or flight, this will be covered by company expenses.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the operational side of data centres, takes pride in clean, accurate environments, and wants to be part of a business delivering high-quality managed services into secure customer estates.
