Senior Data Engineer | UK Remote (1/2 times in office per quarter) | Up to £80,000
Peaple Talent have partnered with a client looking to recruit for a Senior Data Engineer. Our client has offices in Bristol and London, whilst this role is remote first there would be an expectation to visit the office 1 to 2 times per quarter.
This role is suited to someone with a strong passion for data and a desire to shape and grow both the Data Engineering function and the broader use of data and analytics across our client.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role within the Data Engineering team, contributing to the delivery of strategic initiatives and supporting the organisation’s data strategy. The position combines technical leadership with people management, ensuring both platform excellence and team development.
Responsibilities include leading day-to-day data engineering activities, managing the existing data ecosystem, and supporting a migration. Success in this role depends on the ability to balance hands-on technical expertise with effective leadership and team growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Technology and Data teams to deliver a seamless, integrated data ecosystem aligned with business needs and quality standards.
- Contribute to and shape the strategic direction of platform development through proactive engagement.
- Take ownership of deliverables, with sound judgement on when to involve senior stakeholders.
- Lead, coach, and develop members of the Data Engineering team.
- Challenge and evolve how the data engineering function supports long-term business priorities.
- Support the Lead Data Engineer in shaping platform strategy across technology, people, and processes.
- Oversee the implementation of data strategies to ensure efficient data handling, storage, and accessibility.
- Promote a data-driven culture by enabling effective use of data in decision-making.
- Ensure data engineering solutions are fit for purpose and aligned with organisational strategy.
- Drive continuous improvement of platform performance, including cost optimisation, reliability, and accessibility.
- Design, build, and maintain Azure-based data infrastructure, including data lakes, warehouses, and processing frameworks.
- Contribute to architectural planning to enhance overall data platform capabilities.
Key Experience Required:
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer, delivering value through customer data in sectors such as healthcare, retail, or other customer-focused industries.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms and building data pipelines, including ingestion, transformation, monitoring, and data quality management.
- Experience working with both large-scale batch processing and near real-time streaming data.
- Familiarity with tools and technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Service Bus, Azure SQL, Azure Analysis Services, Power BI, Snowflake, SQL, Python, and Databricks.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
- Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and drive adoption of data solutions.
- Experience managing or collaborating with remote teams.
