Service Engineer

We’re recruiting on behalf of an established engineering business looking to appoint a Service Engineer with electrical systems experience to join its technical team. This is a varied role suited to an engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with industrial equipment but also wants to be involved in problem solving, system improvements, engineering modifications and project work. Rather than simply attending breakdowns and carrying out routine servicing, you’ll act as a technical link between the customer, service team and engineering department, identifying issues, developing solutions and helping turn those solutions into practical engineering projects.

This position offers much more variety than a traditional Service Engineer role. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the engineering behind the equipment, influence improvements and develop solutions rather than simply repairing faults. There's a great financial package on top of the basic including car, bonus, pension, paid overtime and paid travel time.

Service Engineer - The Role - Electrical Engineering, PLC, Controls, Industrial Machinery, Commissioning, Installation, Repair, Servicing

* You’ll be responsible for supporting industrial equipment at customer sites and remotely.
* Responsibilities will include commissioning new equipment and systems, planned preventative maintenance, breakdown support, fault-finding across electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and control systems, PLC troubleshooting and diagnostics, and investigating complex or recurring equipment faults.
* You’ll also carry out root cause analysis, recommend long-term solutions, identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance, produce scopes of work for repairs and upgrades, create parts lists and technical recommendations, and support engineering design and modification projects.
* The role will also involve providing technical information to support quotations and customer proposals, helping implement equipment upgrades and improvement projects, acting as a trusted technical point of contact for customers, and feeding field experience back into engineering and product improvement activities.
* You’ll work closely with colleagues across Engineering, Service, Sales and Operations, so this position would suit someone who is technically strong but also comfortable dealing directly with customers and taking ownership of problems through to resolution.

Service Engineer - What We’re Looking For - Electrical Engineering, PLC, Controls, Industrial Machinery, Commissioning, Installation, Repair, Servicing

* An electrical engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
* You should have experience fault-finding on industrial machinery or process equipment, PLC fault-finding or troubleshooting experience, the ability to read electrical drawings and technical documentation, and a good level of mechanical understanding alongside your electrical skills.
* Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability is important, as is experience working directly with customers, the ability to work independently and manage your own workload, and a full UK driving licence.
* Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Mitsubishi PLCs would be advantageous, although engineers with experience of other industrial control platforms are encouraged to apply.
* Additional experience within areas such as instrumentation, process control, CAD, or project engineering, would also be useful, but is not essential.
