IT Apprentice

IT Apprentice working within an abattoir and food production environment. The goal is to develop technical competence, operational awareness, and confidence. The apprentice will progressively gain responsibility for supporting users, production printers, hardware, and the system while working under supervision.

  • Complete preventative system checks before production begins to identify issues early and reduce stress during operational hours
  • Infrastructure Checks
  • Confirm AVAYA signal availability
  • Check Algorius and PRTG system status and report imperfections and findings to IT Manager
  • Confirm system is operational
  • Check database connectivity (SQL)
  • Verify barcode systems and printers
  • Test production OCM's
  • Production Printer Checks
  • Review 1st line support tickets
  • Verify that systems and PC's / Laptops are operational
  • Develop confidence handling first-line support tasks

Responsibilities:

  • Hardware setup
  • Avaya phones setup
  • Help to connect users to Meeting room screens and camera system
  • ITAM system access and upkeeping
  • PC deployment
  • Laptop RAM replacement and repair (Under supervision)
  • AVAYA phones repair (Under supervision)
  • Honeywell PM45c Printer Printhead replacement and fix (Under supervision)
  • UPS check and battery replacement (Under Supervision)
  • Create troubleshooting guides
  • Update internal IT purchasing spreadsheets
  • Record recurring issues
  • Become the first point of contact for production printing issues
  • Epson centralised system administration (Induction)
  • Printhead replacement (Safety measures and process)
  • Security printer and Sinica Machine
  • Roll Call Printer and Sinica / Sirrom system wholistic overview
  • Develop understanding of Aptean's system processes that support production

Training

  • 1 day per week at college (term time)
  • Workplace mentor
  • College assessor 

Once completion of the apprenticeship progression within the company and role development.
