Mid-Weight UI Designer
**Please note that this is a hybrid role and two days in the Bromsgrove office are mandatory, with three days working from home.**
Company Description
We're hiring a Mid-Weight UI Designer to join the Design team at Platform81 in the Bromsgrove Office. Platform81 is an award-winning full-service digital marketing agency specialising in SEO, PPC, graphic design, branding, web design and development.
Purpose of the Mid-Weight UI Designer
The Mid-Weight UI Designer is responsible for delivering high-quality website design work across a range of client projects, from initial brief through to developer hand off.
Sitting between Junior and Senior levels, this role is focused on confident, independent execution. The expectation is that day-to-day design work is handled with minimal supervision, while working within the direction, UX approach, and standards set by the Design Manager.
The role requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of how design translates into build, and the ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced agency environment.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
Website UI Design
- Design visually strong, on-brand website interfaces from concept through to fully resolved, developer-ready layouts in Figma.
- Deliver work that aligns with defined UX approaches, design systems, and creative direction set by senior team members.
- Design responsively across desktop, tablet, and mobile, with a clear understanding of layout behaviour across breakpoints.
- Work within established brand guidelines and design systems, applying them consistently and flagging inconsistencies where identified.
Delivery & Execution
- Take responsibility for the delivery of assigned design projects, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and on time.
- Work efficiently within agreed scopes and timelines, balancing quality with pace.
- Escalate challenges, risks, or blockers to the Design manager where direction or support is needed.
Developer Collaboration
- Prepare design files for hand off, ensuring Figma files are clean, structured, and developer ready.
- Use clear component structures, naming conventions, and annotations to support efficient build.
- Work closely with developers to ensure designs are practical and achievable within technical constraints.
- Respond promptly to developer queries during build, resolving design questions with clarity.
Project Communication
- Liaise with Account Managers to understand project scope, objectives, and deadlines.
- Communicate design decisions clearly to internal teams.
- Work collaboratively with other departments (SEO, PPC, Development) to support smooth project delivery.
Quality Control
- Ensure all work meets Platform81’s design standards before review by the Design Manager.
- Maintain high attention to detail across spacing, typography, alignment, and consistency.
- Thoroughly proof check all work prior to hand off or internal review.
- Keep design files organised, up to date, and aligned with internal processes.
Learning & Development
- Actively develop UI design skills, staying up to date with relevant tools, trends, and best practices.
- Participate in design reviews and critiques, contributing feedback and applying learnings to future work.
The Ideal Candidate:
Experience & Expertise
- 2–4 years’ experience in a UI or digital design role, ideally within a digital or creative agency.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality website UI design across a range of clients or sectors.
- Highly proficient in Figma, including component-based design, auto layout, and developer hand off workflows.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for asset creation and image editing.
- Good understanding of front-end development constraints and how design decisions impact build.
