Overview

Experienced Infrastructure Engineer required to deliver a Windows Server upgrade programme across a hybrid estate (on-prem + Azure).

Focus is on OS upgrades to Windows Server 2022/2025, primarily within Nutanix AHV, with some Azure-based work, alongside decommissioning of legacy systems.

This is a hands-on Windows infrastructure role with expected involvement in design, delivery, and governance. While the primary focus is the upgrade programme, there may also be involvement in other infrastructure project work within the Windows platform domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Windows Server upgrades and migrations
  • Interpret and implement solutions from HLDs / SoWs, contributing to LLD development and design decisions
  • Participate in technical design governance, including engagement with the Technical Design Authority process where required
  • Act as a technical stakeholder, providing input into design approach, risk, and implementation strategy
  • Upgrade and manage workloads across:
  • Nutanix AHV (primary platform)
  • Azure IaaS
  • Support decommissioning of legacy servers and platforms
  • Ensure servers are securely configured, hardened, and fully up to date with patches
  • Contribute to wider infrastructure project delivery (Windows/server-focused)
  • Collaborate across infrastructure teams (Network, EUC, Messaging, Security, Service Improvement)
  • Work with Project Managers to meet timelines and delivery milestones
  • Coordinate with application teams and vendors (scheduling, validation, infrastructure-level issue triage)
  • Provide support to infrastructure-related application services where required (e.g. printing, SFTP, PKI) in the context of platform upgrades
  • Perform validation, troubleshooting, and rollback
  • Raise and present change requests to the Change Advisory Board
  • Produce high-quality runbooks, knowledge base articles, and operational handover documentation

Key Skills

  • Strong Windows Server (2012–2025) upgrade experience
  • Proven delivery of server upgrade / migration programmes
  • Experience in hybrid environments (on-prem + Azure)
  • Platforms:
  • Nutanix AHV
  • Azure
  • Core infrastructure: AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP
  • Strong PowerShell scripting for reporting, automation and repeatable tasks
  • Experience with security hardening, patch management, and server lifecycle management
  • Experience with server decommissioning
  • Familiarity with structured delivery, change control, Change Advisory Board, and design governance processes
  • Strong OS/platform troubleshooting
