Automation Business Analyst

Company Description

Our customer is a technology consultancy specialising exclusively in the built environment sector. We work with construction firms, property developers, quantity surveyors, project managers, M&E engineers, housing associations, and facilities management organisations to deliver automation, AI implementation, and digital transformation that drives measurable operational value.

Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst with a strong background in automation and AI initiatives to join our growing delivery team. You will lead discovery engagements, build business cases, and translate stakeholder needs into clear, actionable requirements that drive successful implementation.

This role sits at the intersection of business and technology. You will run workshops with senior stakeholders in the built environment, produce Automation Assessments, design solution architectures alongside technical leads, and own the requirements lifecycle from elicitation through to DevOps handover.

You will be comfortable working with C-suite stakeholders as well as operational teams, and you will bring experience in quantifying benefits, building ROI models, and presenting compelling business cases that secure investment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery engagements including stakeholder workshops, process mapping, and opportunity identification
  • Produce Automation Assessments with prioritised opportunity heatmaps and costed business cases
  • Facilitate top-down strategic assessments with senior leadership to identify technology-driven competitive advantages
  • Elicit, document, and manage requirements using user stories, acceptance criteria, and the standard requirements catalogue
  • Create process maps using BPMN notation and swimlane diagrams
  • Build detailed benefits analyses and ROI projections with confidence-adjusted financial models
  • Produce high-level wireframes and solution design inputs for implementation teams
  • Own and maintain the DevOps board structure (Epics, Features, User Stories) in collaboration with the Delivery Lead
  • Support sprint planning and prioritisation throughout the build phase
  • Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to accelerate analysis, documentation, and delivery workflows
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of BA methodology, templates, and standards across the practice

  • Requirements

    Essential

    • 3+ years' experience as a Business Analyst on automation, AI, or digital transformation initiatives
    • Proven experience building business cases with quantified benefits, ROI modelling, and investment justification
    • Strong stakeholder management skills — comfortable running workshops with senior and C-suite stakeholders
    • Experience with requirements elicitation techniques: interviews, workshops, shadowing, and process mapping
    • Proficiency in BPMN process mapping, user story writing, and acceptance criteria definition
    • Experience working with Agile / Scrum delivery teams and DevOps tooling (Azure DevOps preferred)
    • Comfortable using AI tools (e.g. copilots, LLMs, automation assistants) to accelerate day-to-day work and improve productivity
    • Excellent written and verbal communication — able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences

    Highly Desirable

    • Experience working within or for built environment organisations (construction, property, QS, FM, M&E, housing)
    • Familiarity with automation technologies
    • Experience with technology estate analysis, licence rationalisation, and vendor cost-saving assessments

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with pro code development or software development skills (e.g. Python, JavaScript, SQL, or similar)
    • Experience driving AI adoption within organisations and championing personal productivity AI tools across teams
    • Knowledge of NEC contracts, construction project lifecycles, or built environment regulatory frameworks
    • IIBA CBAP or equivalent advanced BA certification

    What We Offer

    • Work exclusively in the built environment — deep sector specialisation, not generic consultancy
    • Exposure across the full service lifecycle: Discovery, Advisory, Implementation, and Managed Services
    • A collaborative culture where everyone contributes to growth and delivery
    • Investment in professional development including certifications and training
    • Hybrid working with London-based client engagements
    • Competitive salary and benefits package
