Business Analyst
Job summary
The Business Analyst will play a critical role in enabling PES to design, improve, and optimise digital and operational services. You will work across the Digital Directorate and wider organisation to translate business needs into structured requirements, support service redesign, analyse processes, and contribute to the delivery of the PES digital roadmapincluding major programmes such as Nexia, CRM development, data platform enhancements, and operational transformation.
Main duties of the job
The Business Analyst will act as the link between stakeholders, end users, product teams, and technical colleagues to ensure solutions are evidence based, patient centred, and aligned with PES strategy.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Requirements Gathering & Analysis
- Conduct stakeholder interviews, workshops, and discovery sessions to understand business problems, user needs, and service requirements.
- Translate business needs into clear functional and non-functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and process maps.
- Analyse existing processes, identifying inefficiencies, risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
Digital Product & Service Development
- Support the design and delivery of digital products (e.g., Nexia modules, CRM improvements, internal platforms).
- Work closely with Product Leads, Developers, Data Teams, and Service Operations to ensure user-centred design.
- Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, UAT preparation, and release readiness.
Data & Insight
- Work with the Data & Analytics Team to interpret reporting outputs, performance dashboards, and service intelligence.
- Use data insights to shape service improvements, business cases, and strategic decision-making.
- Provide business analysis support across digital and organisational change initiatives.
- Support impact assessments, benefits realisation tracking, risk identification, user training needs, and operational readiness for go-lives.
- Ensure all change aligns with governance frameworks, clinical safety requirements, and compliance expectations.
Documentation & Communication
- Produce high quality documentation:- BRDs, user stories, process maps, SOP amendments, business cases, and service specifications.
- Facilitate clear communication between technical and nontechnical teams.
- Present findings, recommendations, and options appraisals to senior leaders.
Person Specification
Experience
- Experience working as a Business Analyst or in a similar analytical or transformation role.
- Experience producing structured documentation for governance or project delivery.
- Experience within healthcare, NHS funded services, optometry, or public sector environments.
- Experience supporting service redesign, tenders, or operational transformation.
Skills and qualities
- Strong skills in process mapping, requirements gathering, and translating complex information into clear deliverables.
- Ability to analyse operational workflows, service activity, and performance data to inform decision-making.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and positive approach.
- Commitment to confidentiality, data protection, and professional integrity.
- Knowledge of NHS data flows, commissioning frameworks, or digital assurance processes.
- Exposure to Agile delivery, product ownership, or digital transformation.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Fabric, SQL, or BI tools.
