Data Governance Officer
Data Governance Officer | City of London | Permanent
Are you ready to build something that matters?
We're working with a well-established, independent professional services firm in the heart of the City of London to find a talented Data Governance Officer - a brand new role, created to shape the future of how data is managed across their organisation.
This isn't a role where you'll be maintaining someone else's framework. You'll be designing and embedding it from scratch, with the backing of senior leadership and a genuine mandate to make it happen.
The Opportunity
As Data Governance Officer, you'll play a central role in a significant data transformation programme, establishing the governance structures, standards and controls that will underpin the firm's data strategy for years to come. You'll work across Technology, Finance, Operations, Compliance and Service Lines - bringing people along on the journey and making data a trusted, strategic asset across the business.
This is a senior, permanent position (SFIA Level 5), reporting directly to the Director of Operations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and embedding a firmwide data governance framework, including policies, standards and controls
- Defining clear data ownership and stewardship across the organisation
- Driving data quality, accuracy and consistency through metrics and controls
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, including data protection and information security
- Integrating governance into the firm's risk management environment
- Providing oversight for the use of data in digital and AI initiatives
- Championing a strong data governance culture through training, awareness and accountability
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in data governance, data management or information management
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing governance frameworks and controls
- Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations, including GDPR
- Experience working in a regulated environment such as professional or financial services
- Confidence engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels
- Familiarity with data governance tools (e.g. data catalogues, lineage tools) and AI governance
- Relevant certifications such as DAMA, CDMP, ISO 27001 or GDPR qualifications are a plus
Why This Role?
This is a rare greenfield opportunity - you'll have the scope to truly shape something, supported by a firm that's genuinely invested in its data future. You'll be joining a collaborative, people-focused culture where your expertise will be valued and your impact will be visible.
