Platform Manager

Platform Engineering Manager | Azure + Team Management | New Bank build!

  • Salary: £100k circa
  • Location: Victoria (3 days in office, 2 from home - with flexibility depending on circumstance)
  • Bonus: 10% (pro-rata, performance-based)

I’m working with a financial services business reshaping its platform function, moving from traditional infrastructure towards a more cloud-aligned Azure setup, with a strong focus on how the platform is built, run and governed in a regulated environment.

You’ll sit at the centre of that, leading a team of around 11 across cloud, network, infrastructure and SRE in the UK and US, within a wider 700-person organisation. There’s already a Principal Engineer in place, and the expectation is that you lead engineering, not just coordinate it.

Early on, a big part of the role is building the team. Hiring, structuring and setting standards. Alongside that, you’ll own the stability of the existing platform, including a core payments system, while also pushing the build side forward through better CI/CD, ways of working and collaboration across engineering.

It’s a mix of people leadership, technical oversight and navigating team dynamics. Not one for someone who wants to stay purely strategic. The role breaks down as follows:

  • 50% People management. Building and shaping the team, hiring, structuring, setting standards and creating a proper platform engineering function
  • 25% owning the BAU. Keeping the core Azure IaaS platform stable, performant and properly managed day to day
  • 25% driving the build side. Improving ways of working, embedding CI/CD and making sure engineering practices are moving in the right direction to the new containerised / PaaS Azure environment that's being built and architected

The %s will likely change as the role progresses but the above are the current priorities.

What They're Looking For (Non-Negotiables)

  • Platform engineering leadership (owning teams and direction)
  • Azure (enterprise environments across IaaS and PaaS)
  • People management (hiring, structuring, developing teams)
  • Production platform ownership (high-availability / regulated systems)
  • CI/CD (driving standards and adoption across teams)
  • Stakeholder management (cross-team and leadership alignment)
  • Reliability and operations (capacity, performance, lifecycle management)

What You'll Work With

  • Azure (IaaS + Azure Container Apps)
  • Windows-based infrastructure
  • Kafka
  • PostgreSQL
  • Kubernetes (future direction, currently limited use)
  • Hybrid cloud environments
  • .NET / C# ecosystem

Nice to Haves

  • AKS (design or migration experience)
  • ISO27001 environments
  • FFIEC or US regulatory exposure
  • SEPA or payments platforms
  • FinTech or banking experience

Why Join / Projects

The platform is in UAT with a US banking partner and heading towards regulatory approval, so the run side is very real. You’ll own something that directly underpins revenue in a highly scrutinised environment.

At the same time, there’s a three-year transformation underway. Moving towards more cloud-native patterns, improving engineering standards, and building a function that properly supports both build and run.

You’ll shape how platform engineering operates, from team structure to ways of working, while working closely with adjacent teams where there’s natural overlap.

It’s a newly created function, so there’s plenty to figure out, which is exactly where the appeal is for the right person.

Employee Benefits

  • 10% bonus (performance-based)
  • Hybrid working (3 days in office, flexibility where needed)

Happy to talk through how this is set up and where the challenges are before you apply.
