Data & BI Developer

Data & BI Developer

4 days onsite

We’re working with an established and growing business that is investing heavily in its data, BI and automation capability. This is an opportunity to join a small, ambitious Data & Insight team at an exciting point in its development. The team owns the full data journey, ,from extracting information from source systems, through data modelling and integration, to delivering insight directly to senior leaders, operational teams and customers.

You’ll have the opportunity to spot relationships and opportunities between different parts of the business that individual departments simply wouldn’t see themselves.

What you'll be working with

The data and technology environment is evolving, with a modern Microsoft-focused stack including:

  • Microsoft Fabric – with the ingestion layer currently being rebuilt
  • Power BI and Fabric – reporting and semantic modelling
  • Power Apps and Power Automate – business applications and workflow automation
  • APIs, Fabric notebooks and Python – integrations and data movement
  • SQL – supporting an established on-premise data estate

The team is currently being rebuilt and expanded, meaning you’ll be joining early enough to have a real influence on how the function operates, the standards it sets and the solutions it delivers.

We're looking for someone with around three years' experience in a data, BI or Power Platform environment. This is a guide rather than a rigid requirement, we're much more interested in what you've actually built, delivered and taken ownership of.

  • Strong Power BI experience, including semantic modelling and DAX beyond the basics.
  • Confident SQL skills, including writing and optimising views and queries and understanding query performance.
  • Practical experience with at least one of Power Apps, Power Automate or API integration.
  • The ability to work end to end — taking an ambiguous business problem, understanding what is really required, building the solution and supporting it afterwards.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to work directly with department heads, senior leaders and customers.
  • A naturally curious approach to data and the wider business — you're interested in understanding why something is happening, not just producing the report that was requested.
  • Good judgement around quality and delivery — knowing when something needs to be absolutely right and when a pragmatic solution is appropriate.

These aren't essential, but would be advantageous:

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, particularly lakehouse’s, notebooks and pipelines.
  • Python experience for automation or data movement.
  • Experience implementing row-level security, particularly within multi-tenant or customer-facing reporting.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of more junior developers or analysts..
