Web-Based Graphical Interface Engineer - Contract

  • Location: EU or UK (full right to work required)

  • Duration - 3 months (open to extension)

My client is looking for an experienced Web-Based Graphical Interface Engineer to join their team. You'll need to be skilled at developing interfaces within the DGLUX / ENVYSION platform (Distech Controls) and possess strong knowledge of open communication protocols used across modern smart-building and energy management environments.

This role involves creating interactive dashboards, custom visualisations, and integrated control logic to support high-efficiency building automation, energy analytics, and IoT-based control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain web-based graphical interfaces using DGLUX / ENVYSION (Distech Controls).
  • Build intuitive and responsive UI components for HVAC, lighting, energy management, and IoT platforms.
  • Develop and integrate control strategies using BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, RESTful APIs, and other open protocols.
  • Convert system designs, schematics, and control requirements into real-time dashboards and operator interfaces.
  • Collaborate with engineers, BMS programmers, and data analysts to ensure seamless user experience and system integration.
  • Diagnose and resolve communication, data, and protocol-level issues to optimise performance.
  • Standardise and document UI templates, graphical frameworks, and workflows for repeatable deployment.
  • Support commissioning and project delivery teams during testing, validation, and handover.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience working with Niagara/N4.
  • Demonstrated experience building interfaces in DGLUX or ENVYSION.
  • Strong understanding of building automation, IoT, and energy management systems.
  • Working knowledge of BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT, and other building protocols.
  • Ability to interpret BMS schematics, control logic, and device point lists.
  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles.
  • Experience integrating real-time data with web-based visualisation tools.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills across data and communication workflows.
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts including VLANS, addressing, firewalls, and secure architecture.
  • Experience with databases, JSON, and cloud-based integration workflows.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Distech Controls supervisory devices and the EC-Net environment.
  • Experience using SkySpark for data ingestion, tagging, and analytic rule deployment.
  • Knowledge of energy modelling or fault detection and diagnostics (FDD).
  • Familiarity with IoT / edge-computing platforms.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks for operational technology (OT).

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Building Services Engineering, Computer Science, Controls Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Certifications in building automation systems, IoT platforms, or DDC controls are a plus
