Marketing Analytics Engineer

I'm working with one of the UK's leading consumer services businesses on a genuinely rare hire. They're mid-transformation - rebuilding their data and Martech infrastructure from the ground up, with CEO-level backing, real budgets, and a 5-year roadmap to match.

They operate like a retail business - weekly trading rhythms, growing media investment, and a big push into D2C and digital journeys. The data estate today is fragmented: multiple CRMs, siloed marketing data, parts of the business still not fully digitised. The ambition is to get all the way to full econometric modelling.

They're now hiring a Lead Martech Engineer / Marketing Analytics Engineer to architect that journey.

This role is neither pure analytics nor pure engineering. This is a hybrid - for someone who can design the infrastructure, phase the delivery, and still communicate clearly with senior marketing stakeholders about what the data is telling them.

What you'll be doing

This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role sitting at the intersection of Martech engineering, data infrastructure, and marketing analytics. The data estate is complex and fragmented - your job is to architect how it gets brought together, and then deliver against that roadmap incrementally over time.

  • Designing and building the connector layer that integrates marketing platforms, CRM systems, and data sources across four business units
  • Leading the progression toward a single customer view - reconciling customer data held across multiple systems and brands
  • Owning the Martech transformation roadmap: phasing delivery in sprints, driving incremental value at every stage, not just at the end
  • Working with BigQuery as the likely data lake destination - advising on platform decisions as the stack evolves
  • Drawing on wider engineering resource in the business - acting as the architect and technical lead, not the sole builder
  • Building dashboards, reporting frameworks, and pipelines used in weekly trading and executive reviews
  • Supporting the evolution toward attribution, incrementality, and econometric modelling as investment scales
  • Translating complex infrastructure decisions into clear language for marketing leadership

The first 12 weeks will be focused on data quality and foundations - understanding the existing estate, cleaning it up, and making it reliable before greenfield re-architecture begins. That groundwork is what everything else gets built on.

This is a continuous delivery model - the Martech stack will keep evolving, new technologies will be added, and the roadmap will be maintained and iterated for as long as this person is in the role.

What we're looking for

Background is open - digital transformation, scale-up, or greenfield Martech builds are all strong fits. What matters most is that you've done this kind of work before and can hit the ground running with minimal hand-holding.

  • Hands-on experience in Martech engineering, analytics engineering, or data infrastructure -- ideally including greenfield builds
  • Familiarity with data integration patterns: API connectors, ETL/ELT pipelines, data lake architecture
  • Exposure to SCV delivery, CRM data unification, or multi-source data reconciliation
  • SQL and Python essential; BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar cloud data platforms
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Data Manager
  • Comfortable translating technical decisions into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders
  • Attribution, incrementality, or econometric modelling experience is a plus

This will suit you if:

  • You've architected a Martech or data infrastructure transformation before and want to do it again with more scope
  • You're equally comfortable in a technical deep-dive and a senior stakeholder conversation
  • You enjoy building systems and phasing delivery -- and get satisfaction from incremental progress, not just the finish line
  • You're energised by ambiguity and shaping your own remit rather than waiting for a brief
  • You want to leave a visible mark on a business and be part of something genuinely meaningful
  • You're comfortable being a senior individual contributor and see that as a strength, not a stepping stone

This probably won't be right for you if:

  • You're looking for a pure analytics or pure engineering role -- this genuinely requires both
  • You prefer a well-defined brief in a stable, structured environment
  • You've spent most of your career directing or delegating rather than doing
  • You want a remote-first role
  • You're uncomfortable with ambiguity or working without a playbook

Benefits

  • Salary up to £90,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working - 3 days per week in Maidenhead (near the train station, parking available)
  • A 5-year transformation programme with genuine scope and visibility
  • The chance to architect something from scratch with CEO-level backing

Please note: sponsorship cannot be provided for this opportunity. Candidates must have full existing right to work in the UK and will be required to pass pre-employment checks.
