Product Designer

πŸš€ Product Designer | 12-Month FTC | 0β†’1 Design Opportunity | Up to Β£75,000 | 3 days onsite in Central London

I’m working with a business that is hiring its first dedicated Product Designer β€” a genuinely interesting opportunity for someone who wants to introduce human-centred design into an organisation and help shape how product design is done going forward.

This is a new role for the business, so you won’t be stepping into an established design team or simply maintaining an existing design system.

The initial 12-month FTC is about demonstrating the value of dedicated product design β€” showing what can be achieved through a structured, evidence-led approach and helping establish what the longer-term design function could look like.

It’s a very hands-on role, covering:

πŸ”Ή UX & interaction design

πŸ”Ή Customer discovery and research

πŸ”Ή Wireframing & prototyping

πŸ”Ή Designing new screens and experiences

πŸ”Ή Establishing design principles and best practice

πŸ”Ή Creating design guidelines / a design handbook

πŸ”Ή Usability & accessibility standards

πŸ”Ή Developing consistent UI and interaction patterns

πŸ”Ή Working closely with engineers and Product Managers

πŸ”Ή Supporting and training software engineers

πŸ”Ή Working across internal and third-party development teams

πŸ”Ή Presenting and defending design decisions to senior stakeholders

πŸ”Ή Supporting wider digital transformation initiatives

The key thing they're looking for?

Someone who can do the work, not just review it.

UX and product design capability is more important than being a world-class researcher. They want someone who can take an ambiguous problem, create a solution, prototype it, test it and β€” importantly β€” explain why they made the decisions they did.

You'll need to be comfortable using evidence, customer insight, testing and data to influence stakeholders rather than relying purely on opinion.

The ideal person will be:

🎯 A strong hands-on Product/UX Designer

🀝 Comfortable working closely with engineers

πŸ’‘ Experienced in ambiguous environments

πŸ—£οΈ Confident communicating with senior stakeholders

πŸ” Evidence-led in their approach

βš™οΈ Pragmatic and technically credible

πŸš€ Comfortable building structure where none currently exists

What matters is strong product thinking, hands-on execution and the ability to articulate the thinking behind your designs.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be the person who establishes the foundations of product design within a business, rather than joining a large established design function.
