Product Designer
π Product Designer | 12-Month FTC | 0β1 Design Opportunity | Up to Β£75,000 | 3 days onsite in Central London
Iβm working with a business that is hiring its first dedicated Product Designer β a genuinely interesting opportunity for someone who wants to introduce human-centred design into an organisation and help shape how product design is done going forward.
This is a new role for the business, so you wonβt be stepping into an established design team or simply maintaining an existing design system.
The initial 12-month FTC is about demonstrating the value of dedicated product design β showing what can be achieved through a structured, evidence-led approach and helping establish what the longer-term design function could look like.
Itβs a very hands-on role, covering:
πΉ UX & interaction design
πΉ Customer discovery and research
πΉ Wireframing & prototyping
πΉ Designing new screens and experiences
πΉ Establishing design principles and best practice
πΉ Creating design guidelines / a design handbook
πΉ Usability & accessibility standards
πΉ Developing consistent UI and interaction patterns
πΉ Working closely with engineers and Product Managers
πΉ Supporting and training software engineers
πΉ Working across internal and third-party development teams
πΉ Presenting and defending design decisions to senior stakeholders
πΉ Supporting wider digital transformation initiatives
The key thing they're looking for?
Someone who can do the work, not just review it.
UX and product design capability is more important than being a world-class researcher. They want someone who can take an ambiguous problem, create a solution, prototype it, test it and β importantly β explain why they made the decisions they did.
You'll need to be comfortable using evidence, customer insight, testing and data to influence stakeholders rather than relying purely on opinion.
The ideal person will be:
π― A strong hands-on Product/UX Designer
π€ Comfortable working closely with engineers
π‘ Experienced in ambiguous environments
π£οΈ Confident communicating with senior stakeholders
π Evidence-led in their approach
βοΈ Pragmatic and technically credible
π Comfortable building structure where none currently exists
What matters is strong product thinking, hands-on execution and the ability to articulate the thinking behind your designs.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be the person who establishes the foundations of product design within a business, rather than joining a large established design function.
